Just like you and me and for the people

Nov 29, 2020, 8:33 PM

Obama’s move into their $11mm home on Martha’s Vineyard.

I guess that carbon footprint and rising sea levels are no longer an issue.

Mr Community Organizer is moving on up.

that was the clintons when they left office 20 years ago. And I guess Manac thinks the Obamas should have to live in Public housing, otherwise they are hypocrites. He suffers limited brain function, but you sir are capable of seeing through all that?

carbon emissions and global warming. It seemed reasonable that the people most concerned with global warming due to rising carbon emissions might want the least amount of space to provide them with a residence which produces less carbon emissions yet still be large enough for their needs.

It's also kinda hypocritical for someone scaring the chit out of children about the rise of the ocean living near that ocean. Is any of this rude, or wrong?

all valid points on the square footage and carbon footprint thing, but then again he will need all that space with secret service quarters and entertaining. BTW Martha's Vineyard is 300 feet above sea level, it is in no danger of sea level rise. His Summer Home in Hawaii is more at Risk.

And in our lifetime's Mumbai and parts of India will go first.

property is on the ocean, if my memory is correct. Last time I was there I had one too many martinis and can't quite remember,

But that's a quibble. I take your point. But wan't Miami supposed to be underwater by now?

I don't remember anyone credible saying that. Mainstream science says on our current course, 4" of sea level rise by 2050. And it will not be evenly distributed, it will spike around the equator, where as Martha's Vineyard will see far less impact. Storm surges and King Tides put Miami Beach at risk more so than 4" inches of sea level rise, but then again that does not help ether.

And interesting side story along the topic, I am working on a property on Jupiter island that was purchased for 15 million, it is on the Atlantic. The builder tore the entire thing down and rebuilt it 17 feet above sea level with Pilings down to 60 feet. I am guessing an at 6000 sq/ft we are looking at another 1.2 million in construction. Now why in the world would anyone go through all that? And, they are not the only ones, I just happen to be working on that one in particular. It is going on up and down the Atlantic Coast here.

I'm really going to dive into this global warming thing as..

Nov 30, 2020, 7:02 AM [ in reply to Re: I think it was more about their religious views on... ]

soon as I sort through all the information I have on the Coming Ice Age of 1958. There I was, a four year old child having to deal with a catastrophic world event. By the time I was 8 I had it all figured out.

It simply came down to making my way south of the equator. On top of finding refuge from the gargantuan glacier which would rake my home off the map and fill the Tennessee Valley I could get an earring, another step of reaching the dream of becoming a pirate.

I considered moving to up onto the Cumberland Plateau but mountain people were such rednecks back then. I was kinda relieved that I could become a pirate because my second choice vocation was Cowboy. I had already reconciled my mind to the situation that sitting on a horse all night and singing to cows to comfort them while they slept but that Gene Autry guy always sang to girls and yuck.

Pirates, back then, wouldn't allow girls on their ships. Always my first choice but my parents wouldn't let me wear an earring. But hey, if I crossed the equator who with any moral composure could complain.

By the time I got really grown enough to know that Pirating wasn't going to happen another Ice Age hit. I really wanted to cross that equator but my life was too complicated being married W/children so I really didn't have that much time to speculate being I still hadn't solved the previous ice age of my childhood.

I know one thing about this global warming threat, I'm sure as hail not moving close to the beach.

confused, looking all alike as they do. So, Barry and Michelle weren't broke, but they said they needed the salary to live on, as opposed to most Pres. They've moved way on past that in an astonishingly short period of time, on a salary that wouldn't produce that kind of money. No worries from me - I'm not one who says that wealth by one person robs it from another - but for those who make wealth inequity a thing, the problem seems to always belong to someone else. But that's the blame game of politics, is it not? Hypocrisy is not a flaw; its the ante into the game.

seems like they wrote a few books that sold well, and like most ex presidents, you can expect 10s of millions in endorsements, speaking fees, and book sales. I think he earned it, 8 years in that office takes a toll.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely. An ex Pres who isn't making money isn't trying.

Nov 29, 2020, 9:24 PM

Doesn't even have to try: someone else actually writes the book. I'd do it in a heartbeat. "Let me get this straight. You want to assign a 27 year old to go through my stuff and write the book he/she wants to write, and you want me to put my name on it? How much we talking about?"

I'm just waiting on the next one about wealth inequity. Or oppression.

It must be nice, although I am sure the dude must be at least 30.

And as progressive who sees wealth inequality as a growing problem, I have no issue with the guy that works hard, contributes to society and becomes wealthy as a result. It is the Billionaires that game the system in their favor that are doing the most harm. These are policies issues that unfortunately have the evil Socialism word stapled to them. Nobody needs a billion dollars, let alone 60. I think that is capitalism going a little bit too far.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree. Was just being pointlessly snarky.

Nov 29, 2020, 10:36 PM

Not a thing. "No worries from me."

Nov 29, 2020, 10:47 PM

Was just pointing out that the righteous indignation about wealth inequity (AOC & Bernie: "Every billionaire is a policy failure.") seems to always stop just short of however many million the speaker can himself get. Barry can end wealth inequity for quite a few people all by himself. Not looking for that to happen.

But right, no one wants to become an oligarchy like Russia. Making it an us vs them partisan issue ('tax them back to the middle class') isn't dealing with, or even wanting to, the things that cause it and how to prevent it. One might begin by looking at a congress that wouldn't approve hardly any mergers through the 70's, and since then has rubber stamped them, turning several competitive industries into near oligarchies.

I'm guessing a lot of money has changed hands over the years. But that would make me a conspiracy theorist.

“At some point you’ve made enough money”

Nov 29, 2020, 11:53 PM

Understandably, that point is obviously more than the Obama’s have raked in yet.
