Yeah, the cases spiked fairly badly the last week, especially in more rural areas. Lit up like a proverbial Christmas Tree.

In any case, since so many "youths" are not out of coming out of schools, my guess it is to slow the spread of the virus as the stupid spreads with it.... or the other way around.

Personally, I have two young kids and I work so I am never up past 9:30pm anyhow.

You are right about stupid. Stupid being so many people that believe wearing a mask prevents the spread. Never mind all the crap everyone touches after picking their nose while wearing a mask. Better yet how about athletes competing with no masks but magically covid only hangs out on the sidelines. Americans are becoming more dumb everyday. Wake up people this virus is not what you are told it is!

Why are people scared to death? Unless you’re over 70 or have some type of serious chronic health condition you have a virtually 0% chance of dying from Covid.

The science & data is pretty well known at this point and they know with a pretty high degree of probability & confidence who is at risk. The data is actually driving treatment protocols.

Actually no. While the probability of death from covid is significantly greater in the elderly population, there is still a very real mortality risk in middle aged populations.
https://www.pnas.org/content/117/36/22035

Also, mortality is not the only concern for covid. Many people are suffering long term morbidities ranging in duration from weeks to months. Including one in five young adults.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6930e1.htm

Also, masks have shown repeatedly to reduce the likelihood of spread of covid 19 since the beginning of the outbreak.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/masking-science-sars-cov2.html

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02801-8

I have worked in the icu since the beginning of the outbreak. I have seen 40 yr olds die; 30 yr old spend a month on a ventilator; 50 yr old say goodbye to their family’s before being intubated, not sure if they will ever see them again; and I have been the last person to physically touch more people than I ever want to count. I watched one person go from asking for a Dr Pepper to being dead within 8 hours. I have heard dozens of people tell me they thought the disease was no big deal; usually between gasps for breath as they slowly suffocated in their own lung inflammation.

WEAR A MASK, SOCIALLY DISTANT AND STAY SAFE AND ALIVE PLEASE. I am on a Vaccination trial, and after 36 hours of flu-like symptoms, over a week later, I feel really good. I hope you ignorant ones are not anti-vaccine also?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Thanks for the most intelligent reply that I see on this

Dec 9, 2020, 11:08 AM

The masks are actually there to minimize the amount of droplets that are in the air. Why is it that people arguing against masks continue to argue that the mask doesn't protect the wearer, whenever it's been said over and over that the point of wearing the mask is to help prevent the wearer from unknowingly spreading the virus? Also, yes, the masks aren't going to 100% prevent the spread of the virus, but that's why people say minimize.

Even if you want to argue wearing a mask doesn't help reduce the amount of droplets being released, then at least you'd come across as if you actually understand the reason for the masks to begin with. Yet, I keep seeing people say they aren't just blindly following what the media tells them to do as if they're the smart ones, and then turn around and say they aren't going to wear a mask because the mask isn't going to stop them from getting the virus anyway.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sound familiar? Or let me guess, you ain't going to let no government make you wear a seatbelt.

Let the most vulnerable people take the vaccine. Let the healthcare workers take the vaccine. Let the teachers take the vaccine. Let anyone who is scared take the vaccine.
Leave the rest of us alone. We'll take it if we want to. Treat it like the Flu vaccine.

Yea see they cried wolf with that before and said shut down 2 weeks only to shut us down months and many states have been shut down almost all year but it didn’t help but the mortality rate is down despite other numbers up because unless you are old or have a chronic health issue you have nothing to be overly concerned about.

Dec 9, 2020, 11:27 AM [ in reply to I have to assume some of you guys actually attended at least ]

Just to put this out there...

1) NC already didn't have bars open...before this curfew. His past mandates have kept them closed the entire time since March.
2) This only affects restaurants and breweries, which most breweries have been cutting off alcohol sales at around 10:00pm and closing by 11:00....so this changed it what? an hour? Yep, that must be a heavy spreading hour they found they could save people in. Didn't know the virus spreads the heaviest between 9:00pm and 10:00pm when having a beer. We'll all have to keep that in mind.

How many folks on here are going to run out and get a shot in the arm of a chemical that was cooked up on short notice and more than likely will be manufactured in China?

So, we are told we need a vaccine...then no one will want to take it...so what then?????

What is the end game? The virus is not going away no matter how long people hide in their basements.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: And the hits just keep coming! NC Gov Cooper

Dec 9, 2020, 11:17 AM

You're right in that it probably won't go away, and it'll likely end up being like the flu in that it's something that we'll have to learn to deal with. The reason it's not currently be treated like the flu though is because there isn't a herd immunity to it right now, and there isn't a vaccine. A lot of people have died from this thing, but imagine how many more would've died by now if we didn't change anything at all from the start.

Some people are going to die no matter what, but the last thing we want is for people to die from this who would've otherwise recovered from it with proper medical treatment, but they weren't able to get medical treatment because the hospitals were overrun.

Eventually it'll be like the flu where people get their annual vaccine, and maybe 30,000-50,000 or however many people die from it each year while we go about our normal lives. Those lower death numbers will be the result of however many people do actually get the vaccine as well as having a higher number of people with some type of immunity due to having it previously.

If the flu were a new thing right now with no known vaccine then the reaction would likely be the same as it's been with COVID.

Dec 8, 2020, 11:33 PM

Maybe move the game over to Bristol Motor Speedway. You could probably get 30,000 in there socially distanced and not too close to the players. Seems about halfway between South Bend and Clemson give or take a couple hundred miles.

One would think that with over 9 months to prepare sufficient emergency space in hospitals, the state of NC would have actually increased their capacity by now. Its not like the federal government hasn't been shoveling money at just about everything all year. 6 trillion dollars.

How exactly? We can create all the beds and buildings to house everyone but who is going to take care of the patients? Prior to covid there was a national nurse shortage, increase the number of sick people and what do you get? An even greater shortage. My hospital has had to open two additional critical care units to house all the covid patients. We barely have to staff to man them plus our regular critical care patients. What are we supposed to do if the number of covid patients keeps increasing. We can find a place to put you, but not someone to take care of you.
