Ohio State is hurting

Dec 31, 2019, 1:19 AM

Tough loss. We would complain if the situation we're reversed.

But this is more than the loss too. Day is setting a dangerous precedent for his leadership.

It's the belief that they knew how to win the game. So, in thier mind, no next level needed. No improvement needed. Just different refs and they will win next CFP.

I kindly disagree.

Even if the TD stood, Clemson would have found a way to win. You can't add x points and say, 'See'.

When Dabo and the team were learning to win, he said 'To be the best, you have to beat the best'. I don't recall blaming refs in losses. It was about not playing to our standard or plays the other team made. Am I correct?

We are now firmly in OSU's head. Look forward to the next matchup.

Two great teams met head on and those games usually come down the last series of downs. The way it should be for a hard fought match. Either team would have been upset at a loss. OSU and Clemson left everything on the field that day. So many players on both sides played hurt and no one wanted to sit out. It was a fantastic game and until the last 40 sec of the game it was up for grabs.

It is easy to be a gracious champion but even harder to be a gracious loser. It will pass and the next meeting will be even tougher. All the top tier teams in the middle of dynasties create enemies on the way to the top and even more so staying on top. These teams will continuously get their opponents best efforts testing you every step of the way. Look how UNC played outside of their ability against Clemson earlier. Great football!

One question: If Clemson and OSU were considered the no 1 and 2 best teams on offence and defence coming into this game why is Clemson the under dog going into the Natty?

One word: Oklahoma.

If LSU beats them at or near the spread, I think we're talking about Clemson being the favorite in this game. Oklahoma was not very good to begin with, and then they lost three defensive starters before that game. Including their best pass rusher. Everyone has apparently forgotten this.

The defense fielded by Oklahoma on Saturday after the targeting ejection was worse than the Virginia defense that played in the ACC championship game. Any of the other 3 semi finalists could have scored 60+ on OK. However, I don’t believe that Clemson nor ohiostate would have given up 28 point to OK.

Two reason I say that Oklahoma has no excuses for losing the way they did besides just not deserving a playoff spot. Dexter Lawrence and Braden Galloway were suspended for the same reason as Oklahoma players were, failed drug testing. Clemson won their playoff and the National Championship without two key pieces of the team, and we could say that big Dex was a huge loss....

In psychology, it is called the recency bias. Whatever happens last has a greater impact on perceptions than previous stuff. The asswhuppin' LSU put on OK is having a greater than normal impact on perceptions.

Plus it is the media's job to generate interest in the upcoming game. Plus, these boys aren't too bright as a group, so they are more susceptible to recency bias than most.

Finally, I've got to say that LSU looked daaaamned good. I am watching more film to get a more accurate perspective, but this ain't gonna be no cakewalk - better get ready.

BTW, I kind of like us being the underdog.

Tigers March 94 yards in a few plays to score late in the game.

OSU marches down the field in a few plays and throws an interception in the end zone to lose.

One team got the job done, the other didn’t. It’s that simple.

Truth, he is excusing their failure.

Dec 31, 2019, 5:46 AM

I gathered the parents of my 8-10 year old baseball team and warned them about complaining about refs and a variety of other things parents do when their children fail. I also warned them about telling the kids 'it's alright,' after they struck out.

It's worse than that for Day. He's losing more highly skilled talent than most teams have and now we get to see if he can develop talent into skilled players. With his rookie attitude I doubt it. Imo, OSU has seen its last playoff until a new coach is hired.

Go back to Syracuse loss. Dabo mistakenly walks into their locker room and gives a one off congratulatory speech. He is rare. Few have his humility. I don't think I could. That's how he's created the best program in the land.

Bronco Mendenhall is equally impressive to me. UVA could be a giant if he can recruit.

even if the TD stood, Clemson would have found a way to win and 0-4-0 State coach, AD and fans would be b!tc#ing, moaning, whining and complaining about something else because that's what losers do while winners simply find a way to win.

I said it before and I will say it again, there were several reasons why 0-4-0 State lost the Fiesta Bowl to Clemson, and the refs had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any of them;

1 - OSU had the ball 1st and goal on the Clemson 5 yard line. OSU came away with a field goal

2 - OSU had the ball 1st and goal on the Clemson 8 yard line. OSU came away with a field goal

3 - OSU had the ball 1st and 10 on the Clemson 11 yard line. OSU came away with a field goal

4 - OSU had the ball 1st and 10 on the Clemson 26 yard line. Fields throws the first of two interceptions.

5 - Day played it safe with a two-point lead on 4th and 4 from the Clemson 39 with 3:27 to play. He elected to punt.

6 - OSU had the lead with just over three minutes to play but Clemson scored the go ahead TD on 4-play, 95 yard, 78 second drive with under a 1:30 to play.

7 - OSU had the ball 2nd and 7 on the Clemson 23. Fields throws his second interception.

Clemson wins !!!

If OSU wants to b!tc# and moan about bad calls, let's take a look at the other illegal hit at TL's knees by the OSU defender and the numerous holding penalties on both the OSU offensive line and defensive backs that were not called.

Clemson still wins !!!

The difference between Day (and most coaches) and Dabo

Dec 31, 2019, 8:41 AM

After the Pitt game when we were hosed Dabo did not say a word about the refs. Not one word. That game could have ended up costing us a spot in the playoffs.

As for our fans, while many were upset, I believe most of the posts had some comment to the effect of "we also made a lot of mistakes so in the end it's on us".

And there was a lot of indisputable video evidence on bad calls in the Pitt game, including a crucial completely fantom holding call on us. The calls the OSU fans are complaining about were either completely accurate calls (textbook targeting and not controlling the ball to the ground) or ones where they don't know the rules (catch/fumble/no catch).

Re: The difference between Day (and most coaches) and Dabo

Dec 31, 2019, 2:47 PM

Correct re: Dabo. During the game was quite p!ssed, but he handled all of his complaints privately through the appropriate channels after the game.

Many Fans on the other hand continue to hold grudges. Some even threw drinks after the game. We even won a championship that year. Hopefully our fans will eventually move on. There are bad apples everywhere.

Bingo. That is ultimately why wouda-coulda-shoulda is silly. In the end, OSU had a chance to win. Their receiver made a bad read. They lost. Wouda-coulda-shoulda he have stayed on his post route instead of breaking it off, he's probably in position to make a game winning play. That's not on the refs. It's on OSU.
