You have a choice between a punt or kick from the 20. They are allowed to onside kick so that was logical in that situation - wouldn't have been early in the game.

Ah, didn't realize they had a choice. Always thought it was

punted.

They chose to kick it off a tee, right? The rule gives you a choice.

Yes, but in the NFL . . .

Nov 1, 2020, 8:20 PM

You cannot use a tee on Safety Kicks . . . therefore, most opt to punt

Either way . . . It is still a free ball once it travels 10 yards

A drop kick would be cool to see again though.

It’s technically a “free kick”

Nov 1, 2020, 8:16 PM

You mostly see punts because the hang time is easier to cover

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Per the roolz, it is a free kick. Apparently they can choose to punt it

Nov 1, 2020, 8:16 PM

Or place kick it. Seems like a no brainer to me if they have a choice that they would try an onside kick there. It’s their only chance.

who got the onside kick? He did a great job of it!***

Nolan Turner.

Nolan Turner and no he didn't. He came up and fumbled it.***

Nolan didn't fumble it. DK fielded it and fumbled it - Nolan was there to save his ###....

On a kickoff the kicking team have the same right to the ball as the receiving team, right? And on a punt, the punting team can only down the ball or recover a muff or a fumble, right? Do the rules change on how the kicking team can play the ball after a safety based on whether it’s kick or punted? And what about a drop kick?

I have no eye deer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Drop kicks are allowed on all Free Kicks . . .

Nov 1, 2020, 9:07 PM

The receiving team can field them at any point . . . But on Kickoffs and Safety Kicks the kicking team must wait until the ball travels 10 yards to gain possession . . . All fumbles are live

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the ball is live after 10 yds, wouldn't it be better to

Nov 1, 2020, 9:55 PM

pooch it high for 10-15 yards to give the kicking team time to get underneath it and cause havoc?

I could see where a high punt would be harder to field?

Hopefully we’ve now learned to call for a fair catch if they kick it high.
