What Sparks A Transfer Portal Decision? ---

Jan 25, 2021, 3:32 PM

Are our coaches telling these guys..."" Hey ..so and so is going to pass you on the depth chart...you should transfer? "" Then they just fold up and leave?

How would a player think such a thing when you haven't even really went head to head for the position? How would a player believe such a thing when the player has played decent enough or well enough to even do better the next season?

Do they not want to fight or compete for the job or position that they've worked hard for to get in the first place? Can they not see themselves getting on the field enough to make a difference anymore??

It's strange and odd how players that are or were key cogs on the team for leadership and experience just up and go without injury or drama with the program that wasn't even evident.

Strange....very strange.

I just they just put 2 and 2 together but I also believe they get the coaches opinion as well.

I mean even if the coaches are out of it totally, lets really think about this in their shoes and not as fans. This situation in particular. It was quite obvious by the end of the season that TSimpson is the guy. Got a ton of burn as a true freshman in big time situations.

These kids only have 5 years max (excluding COVID considerations) to make a name for themselves and put themselves in a position to go to the next level. Also, a lot of these guys who think they are top 2-3 round draft picks are gonna want to prove it in 3 years instead of 5. I mean you can hang around for a year and try to beat out the freshman phenom, and end up wasting a whole year when maybe you could be on the field at a lesser program playing.

I also think to wrap this up... It makes a big difference if you are an upper classman or a freshman/sophomore. Upper classman have done their time and probably if they are in this situation have gotten passed by a more talented, younger player. I do think its a bad look for say a freshman to transfer after not starting though
