Seven Tigers named to All-ACC Academic team

CLEMSON, S.C. - Seven Tigers were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, announced Thursday by the league office. Clemson's seven selections were second most in the conference.

Junior outfielder Chase Pinder (sports communication) was named to the team for the third time, while junior lefty Charlie Barnes (parks, recreation & tourism management) and senior Pat Krall (management) were named to the team for the second time. Graduate first baseman Andrew Cox (athletic leadership), freshman shortstop Logan Davidson (pre-business), graduate righthander Tyler Jackson (athletic leadership) and graduate outfielder Weston Jackson (business administration) were named to the team for the first time.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative GPA during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the squad.

Barnes (Sumter, S.C.) had a 5-5 record, 3.20 ERA and .261 opponents' batting average in 101.1 innings pitched over 16 starts as a Third-Team All-ACC starting pitcher in 2017. He also allowed just 22 walks and had 113 strikeouts, most by a Tiger since 1996. Barnes graduated in May in just three years.

Cox (Belton, S.C.) was the team leader of the 2017 squad at first base and hit .280 with six homers and 35 RBIs in 62 games. The Third-Team All-ACC selection graduated in May 2016 with a degree in parks, recreation & tourism management.

Davidson (Charlotte, N.C.) was one of only two Tigers to play and start all 63 games in 2017, as he hit .286 with 56 runs, nine doubles, 12 homers, 41 RBIs, a .388 on-base percentage, 42 walks and 10 steals. He became the first Tiger shortstop to hit double-digit homers in a season since 2007.

Tyler Jackson (Piedmont, S.C.) played his final season at Clemson in 2017 and had a 9-1 record, 3.56 ERA, .249 opponents' batting average and 68 strikeouts against only 10 walks in 83.1 innings pitched over 19 appearances (13 starts). His 1.08 walks per nine innings pitched set the Clemson single-season record, while his 6.80 strikeout-to-walk ratio was third best in Tiger history.

Weston Jackson (Greer, S.C.) hit .248 with eight homers, 31 RBIs and two steals in 50 games in his one and only season as a Tiger in 2017 after transferring from Presbyterian College.

Krall (Downingtown, Pa.), the 2016 ACC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year, was a Second-Team All-ACC selection as a starting pitcher in 2017. The Senior CLASS Award finalist had an 8-3 record, a save and 3.50 ERA in 17 appearances (16 starts).

Pinder (Poquoson, Va.) batted .305 with 16 doubles, seven homers, 32 RBIs, 59 runs, a .419 on-base percentage and 13 steals in 61 games in 2017 as a Third-Team All-ACC outfielder. He became the Tigers' first three-time selection to the team since Matthew Crownover and Steven Duggar, who were named to the team three times from 2013-15.
