Swinney confirms Clemson RB thinking about transfer

by - Senior Writer -

ATLANTA, GA – Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Wednesday that running back Tavien Feaster is considering entering the NCAA’s Transfer Portal. Swinney met with the media at the MacArthur Trophy presentation at the College Football Hall of Fame.

Swinney said he hopes Feaster will return to the program that won the National Championship in 2018, but as of Wednesday would not confirm a decision either way.

“I don’t have any confirmation on that. I think it is something he is thinking about,” Swinney said. “There is nothing definitive on it. I certainly hope he doesn’t, but it is up to him.”

Feaster has a year of eligibility remaining and is on track to graduate this summer, meaning he can transfer to the school of his choice (that has a Masters program Clemson doesn't offer) without having to sit out a year, or can transfer down a level (to FCS or lower) without having to sit out a season.

He enters 2019 with 1,330 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 222 carries and 23 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown in 674 snaps over 41 career games (11 starts). Feaster ranked second in Clemson history in career yards per carry (5.99) behind only teammate Travis Etienne as of the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Feaster gained 440 yards and six touchdowns on 78 carries as well as 11 receptions for 71 yards in 231 snaps over 13 games in 2018.
