The top-rated all-purpose back for 2021 was happy to be patient f or what he called a "prestigious" Clemson offer. On Wednesday while the Tigers were close to his hometown at the ACC Kickoff, the Matthews, N.C. product Will Shipley announced that next level of interest from the Tigers.

"Thank you to @ClemsonFB for extending me an offer!!!" Shipley said on Twitter.

He is rated the No. 1 all-purpose back by both Rivals and 247Sports.

Shipley said after his Clemson camp stop that Tigers co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott told him to be patient and the Clemson RBs coach made an impression in the way he treated him.

“I think a lot of recruits feel differently about it, but to me, in my opinion, it makes that offer that much more offer prestigious,” he said. “If you get that offer, you know you deserve it, you know you work for it and you know that coaching staff really does believe in you and thinks you fit into the program. I honestly like how they do it even though it can be tough from the recruit's standpoint. I like how they do it, and I look forward to keeping in contact with Coach Elliott, and hopefully, I get lucky, and I'm one of those few guys.

“They would definitely be high on the list just because of their reputation, their ability to compete every year

for a national championship as well as raising academic standards throughout the football program and just having great people all around. The atmosphere, being in the ACC, it really does check all of the boxes.”

He scored 28 total touchdowns as a sophomore, with 19 rushing, six receiving and three passing. He rushed for 1,417 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry, and tallied 28 catches for 393 yards.
