Cory Stanton Signs Aid Agreement With Clemson Basketball

by -

CLEMSON, SC - Cory Stanton, a guard from Springfield, TN, signed an athletic aid agreement Tuesday with the Clemson men's basketball program. He becomes the first signee for Brad Brownell, who was named the program's 22nd head coach on Apr. 13.

"Cory is a kid I've known for a long time," Brownell said. "He's a very talented guard. He's got good quickness and athleticism. He's a pretty good outside shooter. He's a scoring point guard that has an infectious personality. He's a hard worker. In my opinion, he will be a leader of this program in the future because of his personality and his drive to be successful. We're lucky to have him."

Stanton, a 5-foot-11 guard who originally signed with Wright State, averaged 23.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a senior, while dishing out 3.8 assists per game. He was an all-region performer at the class AAA level in Tennessee this past season, and a two-time all-district selection. Stanton averaged 19.1 points and 7.5 assists per game as a junior in 2008-09.

Stanton was rated the state's No. 7 player, regardless of position, among the class of 2010 high school seniors by Tennessee Prep Hoops. He was also a McDonald's High School All-America nominee. Stanton posted seven 30-point games as a senior, including a season-best 38 in December of 2009 against Kenwood High School.
