Former Clemson DB signs with Raiders

by - Assoc. Editor -

The Oakland Raiders announced they have signed unrestricted free agent safety Marcus Gilchrist to a one-year deal on Thursday. The veteran safety will more than likely push for the starting job opposite Karl Joseph.

Gilchrist appeared in 16 games (13 starts) registering 56 tackles, an interception, six pass deflections, a sack, and one forced fumble last season with the Houston Texans.

In 2016 with the Jets, he had 55 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. However, during week 14 action against the San Francisco 49ers, Gilchrist suffered a season-ending torn patella tendon injury.

For his NFL career, he had 439 tackles, five forced fumbles, and 11 interceptions.

The Chargers drafted the versatile defensive back in the second round (#50th overall pick) of the 2011 NFL draft. At Clemson, he had 211 tackles and earned All-ACC honorable mention as a senior.
