Former Clemson standout tight end Dwayne Allen has reached an injury settlement with the Miami Dolphins and has been released.

Allen is now a free agent and able to sign with any NFL team.

He has been dealing with some injuries since offseason knee surgery and currently reassessing his options.

"They (Dolphins) got younger guys they want to invest more time in," he told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "They decided to let me go, but I appreciate the opportunity that they gave me. There are teams calling, but we will see. I had an offseason knee surgery that I need to heal up from."

Allen might decide to hang out his cleats and go back to school.

"I love the game of football. "It’s a great gift to all us all, but I will take some time to think about my future. I know at some point I want to go back to school."

The 29-year old had a career-low three catches (4 targets) for 27 yards with the Patriots last season. In 2017, he had ten receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. One of his best seasons as a professional was his rookie season with the Colts where he had 45 catches for 521 yards and three touchdowns.

For his NFL career, the seven-year NFL veteran has 139 receptions for 1,564 yards and 20 touchdowns.

He had 93 receptions for 1,079 yards and 12 touchdowns in 41 games (33 starts) during his collegiate career at Clemson.
