Daniel vs Easley Scouting Report

EASLEY – Two of the state of South Carolina’s top running backs for 2014 were on display Friday night as Easley High School opened its new stadium with a 21-14 win over Daniel in front of a packed house.

View Full Profile didn’t disappoint, even though Fuller left the game at one point with cramps. Both players were the key cogs in their school’s offensive production as Fuller carried the ball 19 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns, while Oglesby had 21 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown.

The Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half, with Oglesby leading the way. He had a first quarter run from the Easley 20-yard line – eluding tacklers down the middle of the field – before fumbling at the two-yard line. The ball rolled into the end zone and was recovered by a Daniel teammate for a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Oglesby got loose up the middle – losing and then regaining his balance at one point – for a 56-yard touchdown run that put Daniel up 14-0.

The Green Wave added a touchdown before the half to make it 14-8, and then it was Fuller’s turn in the third quarter as he broke loose for a 64-yard touchdown run that made it 15-14 Easley. The Green Wave controlled the clock for much of the second half, and Fuller added a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the final points.

Now on to what I saw.

Oglesby – The one thing that I always notice when I watch Oglesby is how quick his feet are. He also has solid burst and acceleration, and one of his first quarter runs reminded me of former Clemson back Mike Bellamy, just in how shifty he looked, even in the middle of a bunch of defenders. Despite his smaller frame, he also isn’t afraid to run between the tackles, and several times he lowered his head to make an extra yard or two.

On his second quarter touchdown run that covered 56 yards, Oglesby was lined up in the shotgun on the left hip of the Daniel quarterback, who took the snap and handed the ball off to Oglesby. He took the ball up the middle, where an Easley linebacker grabbed both of his legs and tried to pull him to the ground. Oglesby kept his feet moving, almost fell down, but regained his balance in time to complete the touchdown run. I also like his acceleration to the outside.

Fuller – Fuller is listed at 5-10, 180 pounds, and while he doesn’t have an offer as of yet, he will. He is drawing interest from Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Wake Forest. Some of the recruiting websites have Fuller clocked at 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, but there is no denying he has great acceleration and balance. Like Oglesby, he doesn’t have a problem running up the middle out of Easley’s double-wing option offense, but has the speed to take it the distance if he gets a step on someone.

On his 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, he came off the edge of to take the handoff, cruised through the middle of the line, stepped over one tackler and then found another gear on his way to the end zone. I know one thing – I would hate to see this kid wind up at Georgia Tech running as a fullback or halfback in Paul Johnson’s offense. There wasn’t a chance to see him catch the ball out of the backfield or return kicks, but there is no denying he is athletic enough to play somewhere at the next level.

D.J. Greenlee - Greenlee is one of Clemson's 2013 commitments, and he was at outside linebacker for the game against Easley. It seems like D.J. gets bigger every time I see him, and bigger in a good way. He looks like an outside linebacker at this point, and it's obvious he has put in the work to get better. The Green Wave rolled a lot of plays away from Greenlee's side of the field, but I thought he pursued very well and was good in play recognition.

After the game, however, might have been when I was most pleased with Greenlee. As the Lions gathered at midfield and waiting on their head coach, it was obvious not only how much he loves the game, but how passionate he is about winning. You can tell this is one young man that does not like to lose.
