The formula in the 5+7 model will be to get multiple teams in the final Top 10. If you go back retroactively and assign the 2024 conferences for the non-2020 seasons, I believe the ACC would have had multiple teams in 2015 (3) and 2017 (2) based on the final CFP rankings. Haven't had multiple teams in that Top 10 tier all that often in the CFP era.

2014 Georgia Tech (two spots from the Top 10) and 2016 FSU (one spot out of the Top 10) would've been the teams to have an argument possibly for inclusion those seasons.

From the article: The 2023 season has been over less than 24 hours, and CBS Sports' Barrett Sallee has already released his early playoff predictions for 2024.

His 12-team field includes Georgia, Michigan, Clemson and Oklahoma State as the top four seeds receiving first-round byes.

Texas, Alabama, Washington, Notre Dame, Utah, Ole Miss, Tulane and Boise State round out the group.

Be warned, the 12 team playoff is the perfect opportunity for the CFP to “tweak” the committee criteria now that they have to begin ranking two or three loss teams into the twelve. Also consider that auto qualifiers will create a need to consider other adjustments. Make no mistake, these changes will only benefit selecting two loss SEC or Big10 teams over 1 loss ACC and Big12 teams. There will be very little chance for non-P2 conferences to get a second team into the new playoff.
