21 Days For Big Bear Valley Eaglets To Hatch (PIP)

Jackie spent another 24 hours on the nest through what were blizzard conditions most of the time. She was completely covered in snow several times. It will continue snowing through today and night and will end at noon tomorrow. Then it will be sunny for the next 4 days. Temps in the 20's at night. Snow moving back in next week. No rest for the weary as my hard working father used to say when he got up every morning at 4 a.m. to get ready for work and to get the fire going in the wood burning stove in the kitchen. Us kids would get out from under 4 quilts and rush to kitchen to get warm. But at least we did not have to sleep exposed to a blizzard.

Don't you just love how God has balanced everything in his world and given us a bird's eye view of his majestic work? He entrusted the care of it all to man. I'm not sure we have been good stewards of it all.

Enjoy today and thank God for all his blessings on us.❤❤✝✝

May be repeating something here. The Eagles must maintain an average temperature of 105 degrees fahrenheit on the eggs during incubation! Along with the down in their feathers the Bald Eagles average body temperature is 106 degrees fahrenheit, which is more than sufficient for the egg incubation, even in these harsh conditions!! Amazing how God has a plan, even for the birds of the sky!!

Thank You for sharing this very interesting link! I check it every time I sit down, now!!

Shadow took over nest duty at 7:11 pacific time this a.m. Jackie left quickly, probably to go find food to stuff her crop. Shadow is still on the nest as of 10:43 a.m. pacific time. It quit snowing for a couple hours but has started back and is supposed to snow until tomorrow at noon. It will be interesting to see how long Jackie let's Shadow stay on nest. She flew off with a lot of frozen snow on her body. She will probably try to eat as much as she can find before returning. May not be east finding food(fish or coot) in all the snow.

Jackie spent 62 hours straight on the nest. She did leave for several hours today and found some coots to eat. She returned to nest at 12:47 pm pacific time. Blood on beak from eating coot. She will remain on nest for the rest of the day and night. Big Bear Valley had 62 feet of snow last year. About 4 feet of it during a few days of snowfall. So, the eagles are used to it. And are used to being on nest in that weather.

Thanks for the update. My students have been worried about shadow. Kids were scared something happened to him so when he showed up, the kids erupted in cheers. We are so invested in Jackie and Shadow. Such a fun experience for kids to watch. The littles are adorable because they think the eagles can hear them through the camera ha ha!
