I see some rando Dem from Cali, Maxine Waters, and Rashida Tlaib as the leading forces in this measure.
Lampoonish as the whole "Space Force" moniker is - not to mention the fact that it inspired its own comedy series featuring Steve Carell - the mission itself is still vital and while I doubt the whole "Space Force" tag lasts the agency itself probably will survive even if it's likely going to have to get new stationary at some point.
We're headed up into space, bigly, in these next few years. We have re-useable heavy launch now thanks to SpaceX, and there's a whole lot of Earthbound enterprises looking to do a whole lotta stuff in orbit that were just waiting for a ride up. They're about to have one now.
And of course they will soon bump into the Chinese, who are straight d!cks, will steal our technology, and do their best to impose themselves up in orbit over everyone else.
We're gonna need a Space Force. Regrettably. Anybody who isn't an idiot sees that. Plenty of idiots on the Dem side as well, and those listed often lead the list.

You know, Quo, I've seen you say numerous times that people are soon to be heading to space for tourism, work... all kinds of things. But, who in their right mind would want to go anywhere for a length of time where they could never go outside?

You do realize it's already happening, right? Some mega-rich dude paid "an unspecified amount" - meaning, he broke the bank to the tune of millions or more likely tens of millions - for SpaceX to launch him and three other civilians up into space for "charity". They touched down back on Earth just a few days back. I told you awhile back this day was coming...it's come and gone, the Big Space Race (For Profit, this time!) is on.
Elon surely didn't do it for free, I can promise you that. That's the tip of the iceberg.

It was the first private spaceflight company to transport astronauts to the International Space Station and the first to develop a reusable rocket booster. On September 18, 2021, the American aerospace company did it again by completing the world's first-ever all-civilian mission to space.

(Update...the guy who paid for it, paid an estimated $220 million. Sorry. Didn't read the newer article closely enough.)
That's serious cheddar, and it's paving the road up there. Costs are going to drop dramatically the next few years as they scale up.

I don't disagree that once it is cheaper more people will go, but I just can't image that many people wanting to spend months or years someplace where they can never go outside. A week as a novelty, sure, but more than that? Count me out. I've seen pics of earth from space.

I'm no idiot, and this was big government waste concocted by a man child who wanted toys to play with.
Glad it's being destroyed. Good and hard.

No doubt it was, but the mission is still incredibly important...and necessary.
China's increasingly getting ahead of us in AI. In the short term they're developing an arsenal to combat our own satellites. The longer-term worry is that without a "space force" or some equivalent they could see orbit with automated killersats and essentially quarantine space for themselves. There's been more than passing speculation some of their moves are geared up for that.

Just to make a lame attempt to flex 'Merica. All that money down the tube.
Supporting the creation of Space Force is an anti-conservative move.
