I road on that ride a few years ago and it made me uneasy. Obviously I did not do any calculations, but it just didn't look right to me. The pipe supports looked too small to me based on their unbraced length. They looked "slender" which greatly reduces the allowable load.

Siriusly though, I once patched up a car battery case ON THE BOTTOM, with JB Weld, and it held in the acid. That IS some good stuff.

That is 100% what you call hiring people that's not qualified to do those inspections and not caring about the people who ride them. They take out these huge insurance policies and run them until they fall apart and kill the family members of those who do believe those rides are safe. They should have to put up a huge fee of their own money that will go towards paying for the injuries, and I bet they will hire qualified people to inspect them daily before a single person gets on them!!!!
When you look at how badly that support beam is cracked, it's clear that it didn't just happen, and that it had been happening for while, but no body bothered to look for things like that. I hope that Carowinds has to pay a huge fine just for it being overlooked!!!!

Yeah…I think I even read somewhere that someone took a picture of the crack at least a week before the failure and also alerted Carowinds to the issue…will be interesting to see if there is any sort of inquiry. Although the park straddles the state line, I think the address is Charlotte…so the odds are probably higher that someone will have to answer for it.
With regard to insurance…I agree…I have always been a big fan of a large deductible…folks tend to be a bit more diligent the more skin they have in the game.

I rode a rigging line for a tower company for years. We inspected our stuff every morning. I get jumpy when the doctors office elevator bumps.
