A Moment of Soul Searching for us fans...

Nov 6, 2022, 11:50 AM

We are all frustrated.
We see issues all over the field...
Yes, some things need to change.

But lets take a second, and take a breath.
Brandon Streeter may not have what it takes to be OC at Clemson... but when expressing your concern over this, remember.. he is a Clemson guy. He is one of us.. #ClemsonFamily.. Keep it respectful.
Spiller,
Austin,
Grisham,
Whoever it is that may not be cutting it... we can discuss these things without comments like "This guy is trash!" or "Show him the door"
This staff was built, for good or bad, out of a love for Clemson and its culture. If it isnt working.. then Dabo will have to decide what to do and eventually he will. He never wants to go back to the USF loss at the end of 2010...
But as we go through this time of struggle, lets not throw any Clemson guys under the bus. You can say you think they need to be replaced without demeaning them.
Let's aim to move forward, not tear down.
#AllIn

About this time last year the diehard fans were wanting a new offensive coordinator. He left and now you have a new one. Now you want the new one gone! Let Dabo handle this.

We wanted a real OC, not another yes man.

Agreed. Our plays have become stale. You have to inject new blood and new philosophies in as the game changes. We have the money and the name to bring top notch OC and DC. Promoting from within only gets you so far.

Yes. I don't recall the so called die hard fans mentioned as being thrilled about Streeter when his name was mennioned as the new OC and when he got the job.

I'd say at least half our fans would have picked us being worse than 8-1 at this point in the schedule before this season kicked off, after last year's performance. Maybe not our year for the mountaintop but a lot ahead to show out and up for.

This isn’t a fan issue.

Nov 6, 2022, 3:44 PM

There was a LOT of orange in South Bend last night. There will be a lot of orange next Saturday afternoon in Death Valley against Louisville. We are doing our part as fans.

Dabo hired these coaches, and he recruited these players. Our coaches are paid handsomely to do their jobs, and they haven’t earned their pay this year. They didn’t last year either. He is responsible for the results, good or bad.

We will continue supporting the team well, but we aren’t stupid. We don’t have to blindly support the staff just because they are nice guys and Clemson alums.

The problem is, you can't hold a gun to a recruit's head, and make him go somewhere.

Nov 6, 2022, 5:12 PM

That sounds good and might be true about certain positions but is not true of the WR Room. The recruiting ranking compares historically but the on field performance is miles apart. Only Renfrow would have been an overachiever. Watkins, Scott, Hopkins, Rodgers, McCloud, Cain, Higgins, Ross, Powell, all had seasons that validated the recruiting ranking. The guys we have gotten in the last couple of classes ( I will leave out this years Freshman) have not. Some of that is due to injury some of that is due to not having Boyd, Watson or Lawrence. However DJ set a record in the same stadium with Rodgers and Powell that he looked bad in last night. Our poor offensive performance is not one thing, it this is one of the things.

I’m not trashing football, it’s trashing itself.

Nov 6, 2022, 4:44 PM

Let me know when our men’s basketball program has one of the highest budgets of any program, the best facilities in the country, and a rabid fan base.

Our basketball program overachieves relative to what we spend on it. And the last two years, our football program underachieves. These are the facts.

I hate this fb vs basketball question that happens sometimes. I love both the sports and go to all the games. I want them both to do well. Best should be the standard for both.

champions (unlike last year), with 3 home games to wrap up the regular after already having road gamed our maximum. Every team goal, established long ago, remains intact.

We have a date in Charlotte. With a win there, we have a date in the Orange Bowl at minimum.

This foundational program changing trolling bit, after one single legitimate butt whooping on the road, is unbecoming of Clemson nation. It ain't always Ship that happens. Sometimes the chit comes along. Grow a pair, y'all.

Go Tigers.

I'm not saying you have to support... it can totally be your opinion that they should be replaced... let's just watch the tone in which we talk about it. These are Clemson guys through and through... even if they end up fired... we still love them.

Example A: "This offense is trash!! Our OC doesn't deserve the be on a football field.. show him the door and get a real OC!!!"

Example B: "It would be awesome if the all-Clemson staff worked out, but I think we need an outside hire to bring some fresh concepts to the offense."

My point was while it may be true that this staff needs some changing, let's not trash our guys in the process. There are ways of stating the facts and still showing them respect.

Re: A Moment of Soul Searching for us fans...

Nov 6, 2022, 3:45 PM

Actually no, I don't agree with this. I don't agree that all the yelling and screaming needs to stop because Streeter is a "Clemson" guy.

It need to stop because we need to correct the ACTUAL problem. We don't need to run around and have a knee jerk reaction just for the sake of "doing something."

The ultimate solution is to get better players, when it's all said and done.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But this staff is responsible for those players being on the field…

Nov 6, 2022, 4:16 PM

So you’re saying that either these coaches can’t evaluate talent? I mean why give a scholarship if they aren’t good? Or are you saying they can’t develop what they recruited. If the problem is we need better players, then that is on the staff that recruited them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: But this staff is responsible for those players being on the field…

Nov 6, 2022, 4:38 PM

I'm saying recruiting is always changing, and some of the elite players who came here in the past went elsewhere the last couple of years.

Nov 6, 2022, 4:05 PM

No, it's a moment of soul searching for Dabo Swinney.

Dabo makes 10 million a year and has been on cruise control since 44-16. This program has been on the decline because he refuse to adapt to modern CFB. He won't use the portal, nor will he even consider coaches from outside this program. I've heard that Dabo will do what is right for this program, but I'm starting to doubt it. The offenses needed major chances after last season, and didn't make a single adjustment to it.

Honestly i am more disappointed in Goodwin than Streeter. Goodwin has championship caliber talent on that defence and the defence has not been hitting on all cylinders this season.

Streeter did a fantastic job with cole stout and had OC experience at Richmond. Seems to me like he just needs some help.

Re: A Moment of Soul Searching for us fans...

Nov 6, 2022, 5:52 PM

I agree that the offensive game plan was a problem. But I think the game plan was the result of low confidence in the QB. When the game was on the line, the coaching staff did not trust him to throw it down the field. Talent is a huge problem at WR and offensive line. The offensive line play is hampered by having a QB who can't make reads on the run option.

I’m with you. I think Streeter is handcuffed a bit by QB play and limitations. Remember how often TL and DW and for that matter even KB made audibles or adjustments pre-snap? DJ almost never does that. Regardless, Offense ranks, while still not great are significantly better than last year, defensive ranks are significantly worse.
