"Its like IPAs and modern Jazz.
Only a few people really like em, but a whole bunch of people say they do because they think they’ll look unsophisticated if they don’t."

I believe many brewers try to make an IPA that is undrinkable as that is trendy. Those are not actual IPA's which are quite good. I agree with him as to most IPAs.

As to Modern Jazz, could not disagree more. That is a huge tent like most genre. There are countless things there that any fan of music would enjoy.
I find that the older I get, the more I play JAZZ. I see I have over 7000 tunes in my Jazz folder. That does not include many in the BLUES folder and Christmas folder.

I tend to prefer JAZZ from a small group or focused on one instrument. I have most (but not all) JAZZ featuring singers in the POP folder. Lyrics can get in the way as they will direct your thinking.

Found this which sounds about right --
"Modern Jazz is any of various styles of jazz that have evolved since the early 1940s and are marked generally by harmonic and rhythmic complexity, emphasis on chord progressions rather than melody."

Much popular JAZZ does dip into melody also as these folks tend to be the best of muscians.

I think there is a relationship between IPAs and Modern Jazz...

The more IPAs you drink, the better Modern Jazz sounds.

I got into it at Clemson in the 60's after Dave Brubeck entertained at the Field House. Then we drank Blue Ribbon.

Take Five is very melodic.

and all that 99% know as to his music. That was Paul Desmond who was on the Clemson trip. Great sax players are the soul of JAZZ (in my opinion). They can't do alone. Brubeck was a musical genius.

I saw Dave with his 4 sons at the Music Inn outdoor amphitheater in 1974. (?) 'Saw the Brubeck Bros. last week at
Thalian Hall in Wilm., nc. Once in a lifetime musician who's musical soul lives on.

Whiskey sours at Diamond Jim's almost cost me a wife. I prefer beer, but she did not.

Sour beer is pretty much like drinking a can

of petrol then swallowing a match. Deer lort, have two or three of those, half a dozen wings and see how long before you are clinching on the way to the crapper.

When the weather is warm, I like to start with one sour then move into the IPAs, especially if it’s an early start like tomorrow will be. Some sours have grapefruit in them so it’s, you know, like breakfast. But it’s beer.

IPA’s are definitely an acquired taste that I have never had.

I really enjoy a good hazy IPA. I guess I have acquired the taste. Will pick that most all the time nowadays.

IPA was beer with more hops as hops help keep beer from spoiling (back before refrigeration). It came about when England was sending beer to their troops in India.
It is an ale, so tends to have a citrus taste due to the yeast.
I have made tons of it, what many are making now is not an IPA.

Making good beer is not easy. The main "must" is being as sterile as possible after the wort is boiled. Being too clean is not possible.

agree.have yet to have a homemade lager that can match the best comercials, especially the european imports.was an immediate fan back in the day when the only imports to be found were heineken and lowenbrau.more recently one of my favs was st. pauli girl.do believe the cleavage on the fraulein on the bottle improved the experience.sadly, this brand has disappeared from our area.the only type available is non-alcoholic,so what's the point?like kissing your sister.

Sorry but singing ruins any real jazz music. Best jazz is jazz/fusion.
