A reasonable DT topic: Had we lost to Louisville last year,

say two bad plays flip the scales, yet we win out as we did with the league crown, does the Committee put us in at 12-1 over the competition at the time?
The last CFP Poll (after CCGs) as a primer...
College Football Playoff Rankings RK TEAM REC TREND 1 Clemson 13-0 — 2 Alabama 12-1 — 3 Michigan State 12-1 2 4 Oklahoma 11-1 1 5 Iowa 12-1 1 6 Stanford 11-2 1 7 Ohio State 11-1 1 8 Notre Dame 10-2 — 9 Florida State 10-2 — 10 North Carolina 11-2 —

I think they may have but I won't say positively.

Our conference championship would have carried a lot of weight but who knows?
I think with a few more years of this type program we might be able to blow a game early and still make the POs. Maybe this year coming but we must win the CC.

We either get in as the 2 or 3 seed due to only having one loss and beating a top 10 team in the ACCCG. Beat MSU in the semi's and then still go on to play Bama in the NCG.

I don't think so. They would have been able to justify putting in Ohio St or possibly Stanford. And frankly, Ohio State would have been a really tough out at the end of the season. Much better IMO than Michigan State. I don't care that MSU won the game, OSU went on cruise control a lot last year, and it finally bit them. I think we could have beat them, but TBH, when they played their A game, that team overall was as good as there was in the country. So, I would say we better not slip, because they will find a way to keep us out. Heck, FSU went back to back undefeated and STILL had people talking about leaving them out of the first playoff.

The committee values conference championships, that's why OSU got in in 2014 over Baylor/TCU. We also had the most top 10 victories over teams that were ranked in the final top 10. We still would have gotten in just not the 1 seed.

I think Bama would have won the LOS, and in turn win the game. OU would probably play them closer than they did to us, probably a 7-10 point game with Bama pulling away in the fourth.

I would like to think so. The committee made a big deal about winning your conference the first year, and ND, FSU, and UNC were great wins.
It might be a tougher case to make next year with the SoS dropping on paper. Clemson would need Auburn, Louisville, and the Coastal winner to have strong seasons.

I think Stanford would have been the competition for the final spot. Who knows what they would have done?
Since it is DT let me throw this scenario out there - not likely but possible this coming season. What if we beat Auburn handily (three touchdowns) and go on to demolish everyone else on the schedule but FSU. We lose a hard fought OT game there and they go undefeated. Let's say Auburn goes on to win the west and the SEC with an 11-2 record.
Who does the committee take in that scenario? Throw in 1 loss big 12 and pac 12 champs and a 2 loss big 10 champ.
It would be interesting to see how the committee values head to head compared to conference championships in that case.

I think in that case, maybe. But we would still have to win the ACC, meaning FSU would have to get 2 losses from someone, and if it's not us, then that is a very unlikely scenario. Plus then that pulls our SOS back down. To quote Major League "There's only one thing left to do, Win the whole #!(% ING thing!"

90% yes. It would've been 12-1 Clemson vs 11-2 Stanford.

Nobody else would've been in the running.

Considering UNC was also 11-1 heading into the ACCCG yet

ranked only 10th, would an early season loss have put us further outside the polling than we would like to think, having to climb in late?
IMO, our schedule, with 3 Top 10 wins in the books, would at least trump OK and their loss to TX. If OK makes it in over Stanford and their 2 losses, Clemson likely does as well. However, having no 0-loss team could change the committee's judging dynamics entirely so there's no telling what we might have seen.
If anything, considering our performance the past several years, and our consistent recruiting prowess, CU now owns some benefit of the doubt that many programs don't.
