A Sobering Fact About Clemson's Recent History
Sep 7, 2021, 9:51 AM
|
|
Clemson is 2-4 in their last 6 Top 25 games (0-2 vs SEC) 1-4 vs non-ACC teams
vs #1 LSU - L 42-25
vs #7 Miami - W 42-17
@ #4 Notre Dame - L 47-40
vs #2 Notre Dame - W 34-10
vs #3 Ohio State - L 49-28
vs #5 Georgia - L 10-3
There's no sugar coating this.

I know Notre Dame was technically an ACC last year team but I don't look at it that way, The game was play and take it anyway you see it.

Even the 10-3 felt like 40 something to 20 something.

This time however, not so much in that the Tigers couldn’t stop the other team. More so in the inability to move the ball/score.

vs #1 LSU - L 42-25 LSU cheated. Currently under NCAA Investigation for that season.
vs #7 Miami - W 42-17 Won by 3.5 touchdowns
@ #4 Notre Dame - L 47-40 We started a backup freshman QB against one of the best teams in the country and almost won.
vs #2 Notre Dame - W 34-10 Won by 3.4 touchdowns
vs #3 Ohio State - L 49-28 Lost and didn't look good doing it.
vs #5 Georgia - L 10-3 Lost by 7 in a game where both offenses looked terrible. UGA made one more play on D than we did.

Our OC averaged 28.7 points per game against 6 of the toughest teams in the country in those games, including a lackluster 3 point performance against UGA. The best teams in the country couldn't hold us to under 4 touchdowns on average.
He's terrible.

He had the best running back and QB in the country in those games and a decent offensive line. Now he has to coach a bit. Tony Elliott is exposed and will be more exposed as the season goes. He ain't got Trevor to bail him out any longer. He is more concerned about what some moron has to say on Twitter than how bad he was Sat.

LSU is being investigated for "cheating", but none of that made any difference in how Clemson was soundly beaten that night.
You never know what you'll get with the Irish. Wouldn't bet on them with YOUR money.
Same thing with MIA - posing is all they do.
Ohio State was the real deal last year (until they played Alabama, of course).
Georgia defense will take them far, but they wont win the SEC unless Nick Saban takes up archery instead of football.
But -
In the last two season-ending games (LSU and Ohio State), Clemson gave up 91 points and 1,267 yards (848 yards passing).
THAT should concern any and everyone.

If it doesn't make a difference, then why are there rules to prevent it?

Wait, so are we concerned about D or O? Now I'm confused.

I'm not concerned. There are people that get paid a lot more than me who are working on it as we speak. I'll let them be concerned.

Who only played 7 games. Almost went on the road and beat Notre Dame with our back up. I’m not so sure on that worried. I still remember the days of losing to Maryland and wake forest, Getting stomped by South Carolina and Virginia tech, and losing at home to Georgia 30-0. Not sure if I take losing to a top-five team with a young quarterback in the first game of the season all that hard. We still could’ve won, even with some of the worst playcalling I’ve ever seen from a Clemson coach under Dabo

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Face the facts that we are not always going to be the best.

Sometimes you beat the best, sometimes you don't. It's not like we're losing to the dreggs of college football.

Top 5 matchups are toss ups. the loss at ND was without starting QB. We have rich people problems.

vs #1 LSU - L 42-25 - You mean the national champions that went undefeated?
vs #7 Miami - W 42-17 - Yes, a pounding.
@ #4 Notre Dame - L 47-40 - Yes, on the road against #4 team in the country with our true freshman QB in his second ever start, we lost in double overtime.
vs #2 Notre Dame - W 34-10 - Yes, a pounding.
vs #3 Ohio State - L 49-28 - Yeaaaah, we got pants'ed, no doubt about it.
vs #5 Georgia - L 10-3 - Our defense looked amazing and our offense looked clueless...everyone knows it. It's week one. Let's see how it goes.
No one is happy that we lost and no one thinks the offense doesn't have some major issues. It's week one and DJ wasn't ready. I have faith that he'll figure it out but we shall see.
We literally have not lost to a team ranked lower than 5th in the country since 2017. It is amazing how some of you want so badly for the sky to be falling.

If you want to be honest with yourself, unless your name is Alabama right now, no team out there makes a run to win all these. You win some and lose some. I will take the fact that we won a lot of these games between 2015-2018 and we have 2 Nattys to show for it. Now the wins and loses are balancing out. If we spread out the wins and loses over that entire time frame, we’d be like UGa (nothing but a conf ring).
