On this Presidents’ Day let’s discuss some underrated presidents who don’t get their due.
How about James Garfield. Unfortunately shot in a time with terrible medicine (would have been an easy surgery and recovery today.) He was dedicated to stamping out corruption but didn’t get enough time in a period of weak executive power

Picked up a heavy mantle from FDR, had the guts/courage to drop the bombs on Japan and saw the war through to its end. Had a lot of work to do, putting the country back together. He was never a self-promoter. Just got the job done.

Truman used up all of his chips won in WW2 in Korea. As a protégé of FDR he patronized the commies and gave up 1/2 of Korea.

I did my Clemson grad school Capstone project about his decision making while I was a Clemson student.
He made the tough decision to nuke Japan that led to ending WW2 and saving many more lives than the nukes took. He kept us out of a nuclear war over Korea.
Most importantly, he quietly retired when he left office. He was a better President than lots of the lore famous ones.

only complaint I have of Truman is him allowing J. Robert Oppenheimer to pretty much get crucified after the end of world war 2. Oppenheimer wanted the entire world to kind of come to an agreement to not produce/test/use atomic weapons and everyone laughed at him and put him on trial for his former communist affiliations (which was quite common before world war 2 in America). Oppenheimer's post-war life is an extremely sad story after the government used him to win the war, then threw him under the bus. Truman and co. pretty much sent USA full-steam into the Cold War.
I know the Oppenheimer stuff is correct, but please take my history about this subject with a grain of salt.

It is a bad time in our country when we have that one, and the one that believes it's OK to force women to have sex with them, lead an attack on the white house in an attempt to overthrow the election, lies about any and everything that comes from his mouth especially with the value of his property. The same one that left our country with the biggest debt in 4 years that our country has ever had. The same one that taught his kids and family to lie as well as he does and gives them a job at the white to help him screw over our country even more than any president in the history of our country. Did I mention that both of them are way to old to be leading our country. One of them can't remember who was in office, and the other will stumble over his words.
But you are right, we're in sad shape for our choice for president in the election year of 2024, especially when we have a bright Clemson educated younger women that couldn't do as bad our two choices, but the people refuse to hear her out. Personally, with the two choices that we have, I will write in Niki Haley's name and waste my vote bc I can't possibly vote for the other two choices!!!

Andrew Johnson’s unwillingness to stand up to the old planter class of the south led to a premature end of Reconstruction and the rise of militant anti-African American groups like the KKK. He’s an awful example, and the country was much worse off under his leadership than it would’ve been under Lincoln.
Grant was an incredible man and American. Tried to put it all back together and did a good job of hunting down the Klan and mostly stamping them out after Johnson’s disastrous presidency. That said, Grant’s presidency is tainted by some of the corrupt people he appointed to leadership and he was loyal to a fault. That said (again), US Grant is one of the greatest generals, people, and Americans of all time. And he did a pretty darn good job cleaning up Johnson’s mess.
