Absolutely HATE the portal ..... here's why ....

Our young men on the football team become part of the Clemson family. They invest a lot in Clemson, and us as fans invest a lot in them. We watch them come in as freshmen and watch them grow both physically and mentally. We want to know about their families, their backgrounds, their interests off the football field. We feel like we get to know them through their interviews, the Paw Journey, the Blogs, etc., etc. When they leave, it feels like a rejection of our commitment to them as young men and the Clemson family. I spent 20 years in the Marines on active and reserve duty and it is just foreign to me that loyalty seems to have gone out the door with so many of our young people. I guess I am just old fashioned.

Clemson Family was a concept created early on in the Dabo and Venables era

i was watching a Venables video where he kind of laughed about the idea and it's origin. It was a marketing tool that has just stuck.
very much like how TNET forgot that Purple Jersey's weren't just worn on Military Appreciation day before the CFP run... the Clemson family idea is new
(ps every other program pitches their family , too __ we just think we're unique because we're so entrenched in Clemson)

getting into Clemson..
i wouldn't think any less of them if they decided Clemson wasn't for them and decided to go to another school.
i'd actually be super happy if they went to a school that paid their bills so i wouldn't have to .

I totally agree with you. I’ve worked for the same company since I was 18 and I’ll be 65 next month, do the math. They have always treated me well and made me feel wanted. Sometimes I think loyalty is one of those old fashioned words that means very little nowadays. I see you are a Marine, thank you very much for your service to our country! My only son is a captain in the USSF. I many times get on my rants about what’s taught in schools and colleges and just wish they would take a deep dive into the history of WWII and make it mandatory that they watch Film footage from the beginning to the end and learn more about the sacrifices of the men and women and their families from that period. I could go on be I think I just went on a rant and no one on here wants to listen to that. Carry on solder!

Don’t call a Marine a soldier. Soldiers are in the Army.

Seems I can’t spell and I’m not that knowledgeable about the marines, so how is this?

I blame Baby Boomers, there hasnt been a more selfish generation

in the history of the country than them. The Greatest Generation acted out in what was best for everybody. Baby Boomers acted out in what was in their own self interests, completely disregarding how it affected other people. That selfishness has continued and gotten worse in succeeding generations.
And I will criticize my own generation too. Gen Xers refused to participate in the political process allowing Baby Boomers to make decisions for our future. Then we get upset when those outcomes are negative, and instead of engaging in the political process we continue to sit on the sidelines.

hard to argue the amateur model when your coach is making double what most NFL coaches are making.

Your post seems to imply all baby boomers which I fall into that category, you may want to rethink that as well as your generation in which I have 3 kids that fall into that. My family was brought up to respect others and be generous to others. I believe that most people are good but like anything it seems that a few can give the perception of all being bad in whatever category you place them.

And I have no problem in criticizing my own generation. You can only improve yourself by being critical sometimes

I agree somewhat, but us early baby boomers took on a lot of what our parents who sacrificed so much stood for. My sister-in-law's uncle was the Commanding General of Marine Aviation in the Pacific in World War II. Through a round-about way, I wound up with all of his papers from his time in the Marines ..... many Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret documents. The one thing that stood out among the papers is how much these generals and other high ranking officers cared for their men. The was no bounds to their loyalty and come #### or high water they were going to take the greatest care for their troops. I guess it is too much to ask for that kind of loyalty from today's young people.

95+% of players will never play professionally, so........

They go after more NIL money in College than most people will earn in a lifetime. Can you blame them? If someone wants to give a QB $2MM for 1 year of play, loyalty takes a back seat.

You are probably right ...... but my loyalty does not have a price tag. It is sad that it does for some!
