How do they make any money?
All the advertisements are for ESPN or ACCN. Or an occasional ABC.

Football carries the load. Even with football, that’s why the ACC contract is what it is.

It’s because they save the advertisers for the Sec network. Lol

I used to work in television ad sales....

ESPN owns the network in association with the ACC conference. Ads are sold in bulk for the most part once a year in a period called the "upfront". Advertising agencies that represent products are presented a theoretical "impressions" or eyes that will see the advertisement. If the Neilson ratings do not match the projected ratings, extra commercials are given until the sold number of impressions is met.

I imagine their "projected" ratings and prices for anything not football related was laughed at by most advertising agencies so they are filling it with ESPN/ABC advertisements in an effort to at least drive more viewers to ESPN/ABC. Trying to make something out of nothing I guess for a network that is probably losing a ton of money.

I was in the industry around the time the internet got big and networks were starting to build "digital sales teams" and now with apps and bought advertisements on websites, I can't even imagine how they sell stuff now, but I can't imagine TV commercial sales have changed that much.

Product placment, what started in Seinfeld with advertisers paying to have their cereal boxes in Jerry's apartment is huge now. Its why there is a bottle of Coke or Pepsi in front of every coach doing a press conference even though they aren't drinking it.

Really was a fun industry. I also would imagine that as a kicker, ESPN/ABC bundle ACC Network or other low performing networks into large ad sales. Like if an advertiser wanted to have the prime spot in the CFP... they maybe have to agree to a certain percentage of money into the ACC Network.

College Gameday produced by Home Depot is another perfect example of creative advertising beyond just commercials.
