ACC Realignment solution

Aug 9, 2023, 7:56 PM

Please think about the benefits before you say no. The ACC immediately adds 6 teams to be the first to reach 20. Yes, the pickings are slim but stay on this half of the country with teams like Cincinnati, SMU, South Florida, etc. ( Think about what a great road trip South Florida would be for all teams, and afterall, we are 0-1 against them ). Go back to divisions with division champions to play each other in an ACC Championship game. Teams would play the other 9 teams in their division with 3 out of conference games. To solve any rivalry problems a team could schedule a team in the other division as a non-conference game and it would not count as a conference game.
Here's the clincher. We would start with the two divsions split right down the middle from top to bottom with 10 East and 10 West. Every 5 years ( or whatever number works best ) the divisions would change from East,/West to North/South. Ten North and 10 South. Think of the game match up variety every decade and the huge TV potential.
THOUGHTS?

Aren't we going to south Florida this year anyway?

First, look at the 2022 TV viewership of every one of proposed 20 members.
How many are in the top 10? Top 25? Top 50?
There are not enough teams that have any audience to justify annual payments much better than they already earn. Will the matchup scheme you forsee do anything to make USF as attractive as any of the top 25 teams? Top 10? Not going to happen. They are second tier programs and deserve second tier rewards. Their fans love them, of course, there just are insufficient in number to earn $30+ million per year for media rights.

Best thing ACC can do now is do nothing re. expansion. It is embarrassing to see them stupidly grasp at straws. It just shows everyone else how dumb they are. Frankly, the ACC is an embarrassment.
