AFTER REWATCHING THE SPRING GAME

The Offensive Line showed great improvement considering the pressure that the defense was bringing. However, the throws from Pearman seemed crisp, sharp, and accurate. He appeared to display a better ability to pick up his reads, checkdowns, and his release was much quicker than CK and CV. If I'm Coach Swinney, I'm at least considering a QB battle at this point. Pearman at this point gives us the best chance to compete for a Championship based on live performance. It's too late to make the switch whenever you've lost three games in the regular season. At that point, your season is mediocre, and you've lost out on an opportunity to win a trophy of any sort. If we don't have a QB that has a quick release and can target different WR in different zones of the field, then it makes for a predictable scheme that can be defended against. Up the middle, Up the middle, bubble screen, and punt won't win championships.

It’s called player development and in this case it is the QB. Had dinner with a long time LSU fan last night and discussed Joe Burrow’s awakening after transferring to LSU. They went to the NO Saints and brought on a coach to get Joe to release quicker. He would stand behind him in practice and yell “throw” through a bull horn 1.1 seconds after the ball was snapped. Burrow’s throw/catch percentage increased to 93% from the pocket and amazingly to 97% on roll outs. Burrow came to trust that if he threw with consistent speed and distance, the receiver would be there. May not work in every case, but it sure worked in that one.

Prescriptive. Please forward to Riley and Dabo.

That is a great example and one that I have used many times. I thought Burrow was awful his junior year. He was a tough kid and a good runner, mainly because he had to be or get killed, but his throwing left a lot to be desired. Granted, his senior year he had great receivers to throw to, but the transition from mediocre to great took place is a relatively short period of time.

I think A lot of the situations in the Spring game are scripted. They were calling plays that would put Cade in a tough spot, knowing what the defense would be doing. They wanted to see if he would use check downs on third down situations because that’s where he needed improvement. I could be wrong, but Id like to think it would look a lot different if it wasn’t a scrimmage.

You telling me that you believe the situations are SCRIPTED? As in, the coordinators told the O-line, "let the D through for a sack so that we can be at 3rd and 13 to see how Cade handles it"? Stuff like that? Or better yet, WWE scripted?

When they have an opportunity to do that every day in practice, but instead they want to do it in front of fans so that everyone can watch him fold? This is the most insane take I've ever seen. This coaching staff LOVES the starter, be it DJ, CK, KB, TL, DW. They are going to do everything possible to make him look good EXCEPT actually tell the defense to lie down so that Klubnik can get his touchdown.

The defense is trying as hard as they can to get a stop, and the offense is trying as hard as they can to put points on the board.

As far as thinking things would look different if it wasn't a scrimmage...well, we had a full season last year to go on. What did we watch, game after game?
* frustrating drive
* three and out
* frustrating drive
* turnover in the red zone
* BRILLIANT drive that ended in points
* frustrating drive
* turnover
* BIG RUN that put us in scoring position
* defensive score
Those would give us 17 points. Whether we won or not depended on if the defense was only very good or Herculean.

If so I think it's a mistake to make your presumed starter seem like the wrong guy. The last few years the real games have looked very much like the scripted one from the quarterback position.
