After sitting on this loss the last few days

I realize that ALL of the criticism we're seeing is true..
1. Dabo is a great man, leader and coach. 2. We have slipped in recruiting, it's a fact. 3. There are no real leaders on this team or last 2 years. 4. Other teams are getting better because why? The portal. 5. Dabo MUST adapt to advance this program further.
The portal at this point is non negotiable... we must go after some kids. Im not saying turn the entire roster over... Im just saying grab 5 or 8 a year at key areas that are needed.
Right now Clemson is at a critical point... a tipping point. This can turn bad, or the leader ( dabo ) can open his eyes and see that change is needed in all areas.... Players and coaches...

If it’s “non-negotiable” who exactly is going to force that to happen? “Non-negotiable” means there is no facet of it to be negotiated - Dabo must use it. So are you engaging in hyperbole or do you have super-secret Dabo override power and can extend offers to the portal? If simply declaring it non-negotiable was all that was required why have you waited this long?

It is more than obvious that Dabo will do what he wants to do. It is also more than obvious we are declining. The question becomes how do we improve in a constant evolving dynamic. I agree with the OP that a different approach may be warranted.

You nor I used the term “non-negotiable”. The op did. I assume he knows things we don’t - since there is no longer any facet of it to be discussed. It’s happening.

How bout an existential threat? No you’ll come back with Clemson will still continue to exist even if the football program stops being successful. The point is, not using the portal to augment positions of need is a huge risk that doesn’t appear to have paid off so far. There has been a fundamental change in the way college football teams are being constructed and we are the only elite team that has not taken advantage of the new pipeline for acquiring talent. That tiny little liberal arts college in the bucolic countryside of NC even has 7 or 8 transfers; 3 of which played against us Monday night. We don’t need to be Colorado; just a handful of fresh guys can make all of the difference. What would our offense look like if we, instead of FSU, had the Michigan State transfer that is basically Mike Williams and had 3 TDs against LSU?

It will become non-negotiable after multiple losses this season. If that happens, he will be forced to change. If it doesn’t happen, and we go to the playoffs again, he will have been right.

Well said and succinct as to the issues. I think we could avoid the portal to some degree if we had a better balance of actual coaches to just recruiters (or wannabe recruiters). The frustration will intensify because we won’t be changing coaches anytime soon.

I wholeheartedly agree. But I have to disagree with one thing. The tipping point was approximately 1 year ago, not today. The handwriting was the wall over two years ago. Dabo has been too slow to react and still won't admit mistakes. And still has not reacted to the transfer portal issue. Next man up may have worked 4 or 5 years ago, but not in today's college football world. Especially when those " next men up" are unproven freshman. We needed speed in the receiver position 2 years ago. Now we are stuck with what we have. Teams are not afraid of our offense anymore. They don't have to play offf the receivers and give them a 10 yard cushion anymore. It's obvious to opposing coaches what the game plan is to beat us. Fortunately knowing how to beat us and actually beating us are two different things. But there are several teams every year recently that can and do accomplish that. We even have a couple other games that we barely win that were blowouts just 3 or 4 years ago.

We are foolish ones paying 10 million a year when we could have hired you guys that change with the times for 75 grand.
Dabo has nothing but an old track record of being a great coach, he lost that over the last three years. We should find another fresh young smart coach right here and we’d still be winning. This family/love thing of keeping guys to long isn’t what all the current media winners are doing now.
FSU’s and the Coot’s portal use is taking them to the top with a little money. We could have had bell and Oklahoma’s old QB.
What are the 10 portal players y’all would have brought in and who would have you released from our current team?
I guess the coots & FSU will make our coach look foolish with time this season.
At least we could have been great if Dabo would have done it your way a long time ago!

If you’re gonna use the portal you plan ahead so that you have more than one scholarship available to use in July. You don’t start planning for it the day it opens; just like you don’t start planning for your kid’s college education at their HS graduation party. We weren’t in a position to use the portal because we don’t want to use the portal; it’s a limitation of our own making.

https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/2023 College Football Team Talent Composite In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the 247Sports Composite Rating.
According to 247 we have the 5th most talented overall team in all of college football. The last three years 21, 22, 23 have all been ranked higher than any season in the stretch where we made 6 straight playoffs. Would you like to pivot and bash his coaching ability or want to stick with theories about the portal that are demonstrably untrue?

Team? Do you believe this WR room is as good as it was in '16 or '18? Are we gonna win the Joe Moore award? Which D end is going in the first round of the draft? You must have had red herring for dinner because all you want to do tonight is talk about irrelevant things like word choices and recruiting rankings. Anyone with any sense could see that there would be significant benefit to adding proven talent to these teams. If you polled those same writers at 247 you would be hard pressed to find a single one who thinks we're better off for abstaining from portal use. Also I'm not bashing Dabo I never said we aren't 1000 times better because he's our coach. But he's wrong about this one thing and if you think it makes me less of a Clemson fan because I point it out then that makes you a moron.

He's not going to adjust dude...He's driving the program off a cliff and to be honest, he's earned that right. He's taken us to places we haven't seen in quite some time...unfortunately it's time for him to move on. He's made the himself bigger than the program..

Agree especially on #3. I would also add that we don't seem to have an edge, or meanness, or chip or whatever you want to call it. The positive energy just doesn't seem to be there.
