I'm seeing houses sell for more than asking price again.

And it needs a complete renovation, unless you just like 1978.

self about the place needing renovated, but nope. I'm a bit surprised a house in Mt. P got to that point.

You know, if Trump were President, there wouldn't be any inflation.

Yep, no way the 60% tariff on China he's threatening now would...

Incentivizing companies to move production out of China would be a net benefit

though. Even re-shoring to Mexico or Brazil would be a step in the right direction.

Sure we can, a lot of the poor quality you see now is due to Chinese products

Take an American built Borg Warner turbo, for instance. It most likely uses Chinese made bearings.

Granted, we do need to shift away from the "everybody go to college" mindset and start pushing people toward skilled labor. I think the market will and has naturally started to steer more people toward that though, it doesn't make sense to go 6 figures into debt for a History degree when you can be starting out making $30 an hour in HVAC, manufacturing, etc. with the opportunity to move up. Employers also need to value experience over degrees, which I think we're beginning to see change.

agreed, but a tariff isn't the right way to do it...

and 60% is YUGE...and...Trump's style would be to enact it with little-to-no notice and US industry not be prepared for it. Like he did with steel, which continues to be a total CF to this day.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not just steel. 25% on nearly everything from China.

There are some truly convoluted exemptions to this for very specific things. This doesn't bring factor in the ADD/CVD duties on stuff. I don't think many of these actions have done anything but get passed down to american consumers.

Maybe we need some complicated system where the end user gets the break for buying American made stuff.

The core CPI rose 0.4% on the month.

"Expect next month (February numbers) to be even higher than .4%. Might even reach a full percentage point. My guess would be .8%ish, but could be higher. And it will be mysterious. Roughly 8 weeks out from maybe 2 weeks ago will see the highest inflation period. February and March numbers will both be MUCH higher than expected. Then it will level out and taper down through May and June's numbers."

I was wondering how that would age.
