Well, I was looking to get someone from those school years

to chat with me about their time at Clemson. You see, my nephew is going into his senior year at Clemson and that group was the last to never beat SC. Just wanted to chat with them, perhaps on the show about their view of the series.
As for those born in 1951- my son falls in to the group of up and coming Tigers who are currently 0-3, not a place many of us have ever been.
It was just something I was thinking about the other night.

Wyndie was your father Windy Wyndham? He was a great linebacker. Knocked a guy out of his shoes in the Missouri game.

I was in the Class of 54 and enjoyed watching your father play. I didn't enjoy getting beat by the gamebirds though. That may be why I feel that any championship without beating the gamebirds is hollow.

When I was a kid mid 60's, I had a great aunt, living in the lower part of SC, in a big 2 story Victorian home. The kitchen sink had a well hand pump, and you had to go out about 100ft or so to the outhouse. Fortunately, things had already changed for most people by that time. Some things stay in the memory though! GO TIGERS!!!

I'm sorry. I'm 24 and I'm enjoying the crap out of knowing that there are 74 year old dudes on this board.
I hope I can even keep up with the technology when I"m that age. Much less use slang like "LMAO".

Most of us stay on our computers a whole lot. We can still learn technology. We aren't dead yet. Just kidding but we do have the time to keep up with Clemson sports and remember the Frank Howard years.

My father was at Clemson 1953 - 1955, I think.
Aug 12, 2012, 10:32 PM
|
|
He grew up in a house without electricity and running water, and had an outhouse. He used a slide rule in college which he still has, but he also uses a computer now. The first thing he does every morning is go online and check the obituaries. I asked him if he was checking to see if he is still alive. He spends a lot of time on Tiger Illustrated but does not come on this site.

Re: SLIDE RULES AND CALCULATORS

I still have my slide rule...although haven't used it since high school. We were not allowed to use calculators. It's a beautiful instrument, made from bamboo, POST Versatrig 1450, in a heavy duty leather case. I could read to 4 decimal places with it. That was with high school eyes. In think it ran about $40 in 1970's.
Freshman year, bought a Rockwell that did basic math, Y to the X power, and that's about it. $140 in 1973.
My roommate's TI was entry level with only x-squared, $120.
The engineers were buying the HP models at about $250 to $300. A LOT OF DOUGH for that time.
Frame of reference - McDonald's burger -30cents and Quarter-Pounder was 50 to 55 cents.

graduated, barely, in '69-what a great year to have on your class ring. Was taking a physics exam and had a bunch of equations pen marked on my slide rule-my hands were so sweaty I smeared them all off--wasn't the first exam I flunked.

point out that there is another important reason to beat the Gamecocks this year....We've had ONLY ONE group of students who have graduated without a win over the Chickens...and that was in the early 50's, when Frank Howard lost to them four consecutive years. The story was that a group of older alumni let Howard know that the losses had better stop. He won the next three. I don't want our seniors to have to experience the same...period. There are some within the "family" who don't understand why we "older" grads have the attitude that all other games (except perhaps a NC) pale into insignificance when compared to the Clemson/USC game...and that makes for good reading!

My dad was teammate of your dad. Played '47-'51, center #29. I was born 1950, lived on 3rd floor of Fike. Nicknames big in those days. My dad's handle was "Bad Snap". Those boys could play.
I grad CU '72. Also hated punch cards, never got a program to run clean. Remember DOS commands. For those who started on a GUI screen, don't tell me how "proficient" you are on a computer.

I met your dad at a party at my Folks back in the 1970's. He told some great stories from their day. I learned more from Jack than I ever did rom my Father. Did he ever tell you about 'Breaking the Ice'?
