Anyone know why the "backwards pass" wasn't even

Sep 23, 2016, 7:55 AM

reviewed ... I saw it real-time ... I didn't need instant replay.

Should the coaches have challenged that play ?

Should have at least called a time out . It was a backward pass, and it wasn't even close

Beating GT and the official by 19 points was a good night.

Sep 23, 2016, 8:00 AM

It wasn't reviewed because it would have given the ball to Clemson. And just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean the refs aren't out to get us.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not paranoid, but last night the refs sure

Sep 23, 2016, 8:11 AM

seemed to be trying to keep it close.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Possibly because the refs blew the whistle immediately? I

Sep 23, 2016, 8:04 AM

know that's a question and not an answer.

I don't think college coaches can officially challenge a call. They have to call a time-out and hope someone in the booth takes the hint and looks at it.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct,

Sep 23, 2016, 8:10 AM

and they weren't gonna look at anything that might favor Clemson without a time out being called, it was an obvious backward pass and should have been Clemson's ball on like the 5 yard line. Nobody is saying too much about it because we won, but if that had cost us a chance to win the game it would be a much bigger deal. Shouldn't some of our booth people be looking at stuff like that and be able to call down to tell the coaches to take a time out in hopes of a review?

and not just on that play. No doubt

There are coaches challenges in college football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They couldn't review that play

Sep 23, 2016, 8:52 AM

Once the play was whistled dead it can't be reviewed. The refs screwed up blowing the whistle and stopping the play.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I believe you are incorrect on that .***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, I saw it real time too

Sep 23, 2016, 8:13 AM

I even made a comment to may family that it's our ball then nobody even looked at it or really talked about it on the broadcast for more than a few seconds. This was really bad officiating tonight and this crew should be suspended for a game.

Sep 23, 2016, 8:22 AM

Oh God, I hope they don't get assigned the Clemson-Louisville game.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of game tape being sent...

Sep 23, 2016, 8:26 AM

...to the ACC officiating office after this week. It's done after every game regardless but last night was an absolute joke.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

to their credit, tech got right to line and ran the next

Sep 23, 2016, 8:29 AM

Play. Made the review moot.

But no doubt a backward pass. I screamed at my tv 'backward pass' and 'pick it up!' And 'our ball!'

Could not believe replay sat an their buzzer. Lots of bad calls in that game.

Re: Anyone know why the "backwards pass" wasn't even

Sep 23, 2016, 8:58 AM

Thinking it was a backwards pass, I looked over at our bench. Dabo ran straight to the ref, stood beside him for a second (clearly waiting on something from our booth through the headset) and then gestured to the referee that he didn't want to challenge the call.

I haven't watched the replay, but when it was thrown I thought it was backwards. Either it wasn't, or someone in our booth screwed up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Watched it when I got home last night...

Sep 23, 2016, 9:00 AM

If it were reviewable, we messed up...even the announcers said tech got a huge break on that play

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because the refs tried their hardest to keep it a close game

Sep 23, 2016, 9:00 AM

Absolutely should have challenged.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, that was a mistake. We had a ton to

Sep 23, 2016, 9:49 AM

gain by winning the challenge. It is clear we would have had the ball first and goal.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Refs miss that call all the time......in a lot of games. My

Sep 23, 2016, 9:57 AM

guess is that they blow the whistle too quick and hat stops play........regardless of whether it is a pass or lateral. If the whistle blows, the play is not reviewable.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Surely they didn't blow the whistle before the

Sep 23, 2016, 9:59 AM

ball was thrown. It was a fumble.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wasn't a fumble.....it was a lateral and no, they don't

Sep 23, 2016, 8:18 PM

Blow the whistle before the ball is thrown. They blow it when the ball hits the ground, thinking it was a pass and the play is then dead. In way too many cases the ball is thrown laterally or backwards and the refs make a mistake sand blow the whistle.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lateral on ground = fumble***

management at the end of the half, and other sideline mistakes this year and in the past, makes you wonder if we don't need to assign someone with good game strategy skills to manage these things.
