Stoudt Could Not Win the Job from Boyd
Sep 9, 2014, 5:55 AM

So I guess the Coaches thought Boyd gave us the best chances to win. Stoudt couldn't win the starting job during his entire time at Clemson. Could not beat out Boyd. The same Boyd that got rattled in many games. The Boyd that didn't make it on a NFL team. Both Boyd and Stoudt had a all star cast to throw to. But now Stoudt gives us the best chance to beat FSU? What has changed with Stoudt? He looks exactly the same or worse than the one who couldn't beat out Boyd IMO and many other commentators on this board. Now I wanted Stoudt in over Boyd because Boyd got rattled too easily and when Boyd was off it was hard for him to snap out of it. Now we see that Boyd couldn't even make it in the NFL. You would think the coaches would be ready to take it to the next level. Average Boyd and now average Stoudt to Winston potential DW. Winston confident DW. More class than Winston--DW Lets face it, the only thing that has changed with Stoudt is that he is a Senior. As many have observed it looks like the players ready for a change too as their response to DW compared to Stoudt I think Stoudt fits the back up role like he has been playing his entire time at Clemson

Help me understand. So you are saying that our coaches,

whose jobs depend upon wins and losses, are playing a senior who is not better than a freshman, simply because he is a senior?

I don't think the coaches want to risk offending the Seniors

on the team by picking a Freshmen. Even if it is a person who could not beat out Boyd for the job. But really it looks like the team responds better to DW. Looks like the Coaches want to create a culture of Seniority. If you are all in and wait your turn then we will give you the benefit of a doubt over any freshmen. If this we not true than DW would have staying in the game after his amazing performance when he first got in during the GA game. If they were only interested in wins and losses WHY would you through away the momentum created by the great DW TD pass??? I said at that time--they can't take him out ofter that-- but they did! it was like WOW this guy can quickly put some points on the board. he has the team fired up. They are celebrating the TD on the sidelines. We were down and flat until then. That didn't matter because they still took him out. MANY were shocked that he would be out the very next time we got the ball

take a QB out who has a hot hand. A QB who is in a good rhythm. A QB who changed the momentum seeing how we were behind at the time. DW really quieted the GA crowd with that TD pass--didn't he? So instead of saying--wow lets see if this guy can keep rolling like this. The very next series he was a goner

They are clearly playing a senior that is not as good as a freshman.

The real mystery is why, because as you say it's is their job to win games. That is the reason behind the thousands of posts from clear- eyed individuals who have seen both of them play in game situations questioning why this is happening.

I don't think the coaches believe this team is ready for the next level. Which is why Morris let it slip that Watson is the future. S toudt won't get anyone fired. We will have a average year from a average quarterback

There's nothing to make anyone understand, if you can't see it then there's no hope. It's so obvious that you should be worried if you don't see it. Have you ever seen a true starter play so much of the SC State game? Get all his playing time in now bc later in the year, it's over

glad he came back for his Senior year. Your facts about who won the starting job while Boyd was here are correct. But, Boyd is gone now. Whether or not he had a good run in the league is IRRELEVANT in the discussion of who gives us the better chance to win now. I agree with the coaches. Play Stoudt until Watson wins the starting job...even if that means it'll be the 2015 season.

Our coaching staff probably together have about 250 years of combined coaching experience. The know, you know, and I know that Watson has more talent than Stoudt. That being said, there are many valid reasons for keeping the current pecking order. The two most prominent ones that come to mind: (1) keeping the pressure of huge expectations off of Watson for awhile; (2) Watson only weighs about 200 pounds and there may be some question as to whether he should be exposed to a full game's worth of pounding at his current weight and strength levels. Stoudt, on the other hand, has added about 10 or 15 pounds since last season. The final and probably most important one relates to team chemistry. If a 4th year player is not given the benefit of the doubt in terms of playing time, and it isn't totally obvious to everyone that Watson gives the team the best chance to win, the team can get divided, and that could be harmful long term to the program. Patience, Grasshopper, Watson's time will come.

I am not sure what is more troubling, your post or the fact that you think you were answering anything but a coot. Try and get a clue.
