Article: Recruit narrows list to 5

Aug 6, 2012, 3:57 PM

(Via ESPN Insider)

"Levonte Whitfield (Orlando, Fla./Jones) is ready to take away all the suspense. And the decision could come sooner than some anticipated for the 12th-ranked wide receiver in the nation. No. 84 in the ESPN 150, Whitfield hinted the time has come to offer his services up. “It’ll probably be some time next week, but it could be this week. I’m not sure when,” he said. The one thing Whitfield is sure of is his final schools, as Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State and West Virginia are in the mix. The 5-foot-9, 176-pound Whitfield has an official visit planned at Ohio State for the Nov. 24 Michigan game because he “can’t wait to see the history being played between those two schools and the rivalry.” A track specialist with 4.35 40-yard dash speed, Whitfield's summer accomplishments certainly put him in the mix among the elite with breakout performances at both The Opening and Gridiron Kings. While three of the five schools in his top five aren’t that far from home, it’s more the feeling of home he’s looking for. He was originally committed to the University of Miami but backed off the Hurricanes in late March. “I love the coaches and players at Ohio State,” Whitfield said. “I had a good time with them when I was up there (on June 23). It doesn’t matter how far away it is, it’s about what I do when I get there.”
At Gridiron Kings, Whitfield told DawgNation’s Kipp Adams, Florida State and Miami were at the top of the list."

I hope we can land this kid with that kind of speed.

Aren't we kind of to stacked now on WR?

Yeah it's nice to have another one but I don't want the entire team made up on WR's.

Jacoby Ford was 5'-9". Different body types can yield different results. A good receiver is a good receiver. I think we are full at the position now unless we can get North.
