the MULTI time transfer capability that is actually making it even more crazy. Mercenaries literally can shop their services from year to year, and coaches have to first try to secure the roster they already HAVE on campus, before they can even know what to go out and recruit, either from high school OR the Portal.

It truly be a huge mess.

It’s easy for us to gripe but can you imagine coaching in this environment? I’m all set at this position so I’ll recruit this one. Oh your top two running backs (or whatever) decided to quit or leave and you were chasing a lineman. How on earth can you navigate? Heck we had a tailback quit on a Tuesday after game 2 or 3 a couple years ago (Lyn J). Eventually there has to be some negative repercussions for the free agents.

Dabo has put himself and the program in a pretty good spot with this overall with our lower numbers of transitions out and less negative impact there from a talent standpoint when it does happen. Poor Beamer has to restock a significant part of his roster and starting line-up every year and shell out more each time to get there. It's a vicious cycle for those who rely on the portal to maintain a competitive team. Sure it may hit together in a particular year but the foundation isn't there for long-term consistency.

Live by the portal. Die by the portal.

I can’t imagine how they are managing their rosters. Maybe we migrate to some once a season window where players commit for one year.

Then each season everyone has the opportunity to transfer or re-commit for another season. What we have now is just stupid.

Yep. A f’ing mess for sure. Rarely do you find crystal balls in life, but I stared into one when I first read the 2020 CA state statute allowing nil. The ### burst at that point imo.
