working with us, former President Barker (a super nice guy, BTW).
Yesterday, we got talking about development on campus and I asked about the vet school. He said "hold on, I'm on the task force pulling it together (he is a architect and taught at Clemson). I have the latest drawings in my trunk."
This is going to be a totally 1st class facility with separate buildings for offices, labs, research, teaching and a state of the art equine facility. Really cool to see what is coming.
Sorry, since it's not approved in full, I couldn't get pigs (pun intended).
As usual, Clemson does it 1st class.
Made my day.

Yeah. The Vet School is one of the better investments the school has made.***

He allowed me to drop a class I was flunking 3 days after the last day to drop the class. He saved my GPA.

You can change the phrasing if you like, but in his opinion was it worth the insanely expensive building campaigns and staffing expansions and raises, and the complete alienation of a large portion of the in-state student base Clemson previously served to engage in a myopic pursuit of a US News top 20 ranking, especially given that after all these changes we are now #43 in public universities after completely transforming our university?

Her husband Ken (owner of Nicks) was my advisor when I was in pre-med, and it actually surprises me that he was ok with the shady stuff she pulled later.

He wrote me a letter for my med school application. He must have had pee tapes of MUSC admissions people, there was a Clemson to MUSC pipeline for a long long time

Med school applications were hurting so bad in the 90s

That with my SAT score (which was pretty good), if I had gotten a 3.5 my freshman year in pre-med, I would have had guaranteed MUSC acceptance upon graduating.
Short version of the story, I didn’t.

If he wants to invent new pointless admin jobs and give them to his daughter in law at the expense of students' tuition, what's wrong with that?
For real fun, go read up on what happened to the CFO who tried to push back against all this and how much of a raise his successor got for playing ball.
Oooooorrr...
"Hey, Almeda, we need you to come back as interim VP of student affairs because this Tucker Hipps frat death thing is a mess. We'll pay you $200k."
AJ: "Okay, I'll do that for a year. What if I decide I want to come back out of retirement the next year and take my old job back full time?"
Barker: "$275k a year!"
(Yep, those numbers are on the books)
Too soon?

Now our admin has exorbitant salaries as a result and students are paying way, way too much for attending. Clemson's price increase was well over the national average and was orchestrated to give a false image of prestige.
