Aside from playoff games, bowl results mean almost nothing

The best players who are draft eligible never play in the games. You could say it's a wash since both teams deal with the same issue, but a star QB sitting out vs a star LB is not an apples to apples comparison. One guy effects winning a lot more than the other. You just can't read much into these games nowadays.

SMH. That’s your opinion. Ask the kids playing in the game if it matters. Ask the recruits at home still on the fence if it matters. Ask the universities who make millions off the one game if it matters. Myopic much?!

Your take on the game is a model based on the NFL. Only playoffs matter. Why play any games if you can’t make the playoffs? Just do analysis every year and scrap all but 12 teams. That would be a great model. Since games don’t matter.

Stupid point. He's right. I'm sure the people playing in the game want to win, but if it truly mattered, all the elite players wouldn't opt out the way they do. No recruit cares about a no-name bowl. How Georgia Tech did against UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl means zilch to any recruit. It didn't flip anyone.

I do believe the fact that we're playing in the Gator Bowl in the first place hurts us in recruiting, since the 5 Star kids want to be in the playoffs. But how the Gator Bowl actually shakes out isn't a big deal, outside of giving some younger guys playing experience and maybe trying to leave the season on a high note. And the total payout for non-playoff/New Year's Day Bowls is very low per school. For example, the Bahamas Bowl gives the conferences $225,000. It costs more to send a team to the Bahamas than they receive in distributions. Our distribution for playing in the Gator Bowl is around $400,000. We made a profit, but a very small one.

You're just clueless.

The team gets to have fun for a few days, and the coaches get a couple more weeks of practice time. Why not?

Dont forget all the nice "Swag" the players get. Used to get watches, video games, clothes, shopping spree, extra cash and other stuff. I assume still the same.

Couldn’t disagree more with the OP..

This game may, and likely will, set the tone for next year.

I look at this game as a warmup for the next team on the schedule. And you know who that is.

No one wants to go into spring ball with a loss is the last game and certainly don’t want to prepare for UGA coming of a loss —- to another sec team

Go Tigers . Be your best today.

Our bowl game definitely matters to me and I'm sure it matters to every coach and player on the team

One of those best players is this guy called Tyler Davis, oh wIt he's playing. This game may not mean much to you but it means a lot to a lot of people. Tell those seniors who are suiting up for the last time it means nothing, tell the fans that traveled to Jacksonville it means nothing, tell the coaches that have studied hundreds of hours of film it means nothing. You my friend are a minority in the feeling and opinion it means nothing. GO TIGERS!!!!!
