is that WHY do we feel that we have to "mix things up" when we have a team on the ropes? Happened yesterday late in the 3rd quarter. We run the ball 3 straight times and driving the ball into Syracuse territory, they have Cuse players starting to drag and get hurt, we are up 17 and looking to go up 24 going into the 4th. We then decide to throw the swing pass or whatever that was to Brinny, he fumbles and they recover and it shouldve been another scoop and score (they eventually do score). Totally changed the momentum, same thing happened last week vs FSU. It just seems as though the OC outsmarts himself on occasion.
All in all, great win yesterday and a fun atmosphere but that game was over, just like FSU, if we just stay on the ground late and impose our will but that's why Riley gets paid $2M a year I suppose.

Definitely wasn’t the same thing last week. Last week was a missed assignment that lead to a blindside hit. I agree that yesterday, just continue what’s working until they stop it. I would have run it down their throat but that me.

agree but, FSU was also on their heels and if we keep running the ball maybe we dont have that play. We were in FG range but, I guess, in hindsight, we probably wouldve missed that too.
Just wasnt meant to be.

You are correct, but even Scott/Elliot had this same mental tick. Run the ball down the field, then get cute. Football is not a cute sport and one of the bedrock principles is to make your opponent stop the run before you even consider cuteness.
With our backs, there is no excuse to not grind the opponent down in the second half.
Auburn ran all over UGA and their “pro” defense.

I agree fully and the missed opportunity with first and goal was baffling. If the running attack is working, just run the ball until the other team adjusts enough to stop it. No reason to try to be cute or seem desperate when you have mo on your side.

If the defense has adjusted do you run into a stacked box? Not the best plan. How many plays do you waste deciding they have stopped the run? If you see a stacked box you change to a pass/sweep not between the tackles where we had been running.

We aren't a finished product on offense. Far from it. Riley is still feeling his way through trying to find playmakers and tendencies that we do well. The emergence of Tyler Brown and Stellato for instance. Their roles will increase as the season progresses. I'm hoping Briningstool just had a bad day. It happens. Effective use of our TE is a must down the stretch. We are getting there. By the 3nd of the year and once Williams returns this offense will be explosive in comparison to last year's offense. Imo

We do the same thing on defense. I have wondered the same thing for years? Last week we were pounding FSU in the first quarter and then went to 3-man line and soft coverage and let them get up off the canvas. It is like they have a pre-planned sheet of things they want to do and they MUST do them all, or break out in a rash, or something. Do not understand it.

I see what you’re saying and I agree in general. I will posit that Cade did Not have to throw that to a runny. There were other options. Another receiver? Throw it away (bc briny was already covered). Or run it…

1. Great play calls are the ones that work.
And, rule #2.
2. You don't know whether it's a great play call or not until after you run it.

it on, accelerator to the floor. Not reckless, mind you, but not relaxing and letting up. Every time we have had a lead, we start playing it safe and when we do, we ALWAYS get complacent and lose any intensity and focus we may have had.

The short answer is the OC expects the DC to
Adjust to the run play and stop it so they go to something else to catch the defense.
If you look at the play think how many yards was BStool downfield and was the pass completed
If it was completed (yes-ruled a fumble) and it was more than five yards, then it is a good play call. Him fumbling has nothing to do with the call
Same as if it was a run play and the RB fumbled
