Burgers...flat top or charcoal? I've been cooking exclusively on charcoal for 25 years now. Just got a Blackstone and did burgers for first time on it. The family absolutely prefers the flat top. I think I could go back and forth depending on my mood...but never thought it would be a question. Which brings me to the next time I do steaks. Do I abandon charcoal flavor all together? To sear on Blackstone and move to grill....or do I abandon charcoal unless I'm doing barbecue from here out. It's a tough crossroads in my life.

For starters, we don't remember you and therefore you should be posting tiddie pigs ITT. Because it's Friday and I'm in a GREAT mood imma answer your question assuming you'll be providing the tiddies. If you don't pay up let's just say you'll get crossed off the Jounge Christmas list.

First one is easy. Steaks? Char. Coal. All day long.

Burgers? Depends. For me, if you are looking for a big juicy yummy burger I'd suggest slow playing them on the charcoal grill. If on the other hand you are in the mood for sliders, smashburgers, oklahoma smash burgers, chopped cheese, or the like.....Blackstone all day long.

It may all come down to what size your wife's buns are. That's a good general guide that some poor in here without a blackstone will dispute and you should know in advance that brokebastard is 100% incorrect.

Good luck, I'll be patientbearing for the melkers.

I think you lose the only advantage of using iron to cook

steak when you use the blackstone. In a cast iron (even better carbon steel or stainless for better heat control) you can baste the steak in butter and aromatics while you bring it up to internal temp and AFTER you have a hard sear. I guess you could do this ON the blackstone. I once did fried chicken in cast iron on the blackstone to keep the kitchen cleaner and it worked pretty well.

Griddles, my man. They are an outdoor experience. You can also use them in a garage or under a porch during the rain.

They are just as easy to clean, and I'd argue even MORE versatile than a grill. Eggs? Fried rice? Veggies? Glizzies? BACON????????? Sandwiches? You can do all of this plus MUCH MUCH more!

Social experience? You've never had a griddle so full it took 4 hands to manage it have ya?

I can cook smashburgers on the Blackstone and be eating in the time it takes the charcoal to heat up to proper form on the grill.

So about 80% of the time I opt that way nowadays.
Purely a time factor. If I got gobs of time, I grill.

And yeah, a grilled one tastes better, but.....

I don't know him. I do that I like cooling in my cast iron pan forms steaks and burgers, but I would need to do a taste test to compare at the same time to know.

excellent. Far better than I expected from a flat top griddle. If I'm cooking for the 3rd battalion, with a ton of burgers, Blackstone is the way to go. No flareups, etc. I could cook 40 burgers on it. And they're not that much different. Maybe a little juicier even.

I can't bring myself to cook a steak on the blackstone though. Or ribs obviously. Or a Boston butt, or....well, you get the idea.
