Strength of schedule perception.
Nov 22, 2021, 2:40 PM
|
|
Bama has won one game this year against a ranked team, 25 Arkansas (AP poll) by 7 points at home. They lost their other game against ranked teams, 14 Arkansas by 3 points.
Cincy has beaten 1 ranked team this year, 5 Notre Dame by 11 on the road. They have lost to no ranked teams.
But, Cincy is being deemed by many to be unworthy because of their schedule. And Bama is being deemed by many to be worthy of the playoffs even if they lose another game.
Perception is reality. "Well, of course Bama is better than Cincy. They're Bama."

Some have suggested Bama would be worthy of a playoff spot if they lost a close game to UGA. That's different than just having a second loss.

Cool, that means we have one less loss then. These polls need to take that into consideration.

Rankings or no rankings, I’m not at all confident that Cincy would have won against Miami, Ole Miss, MS State, UT, LSU, Florida, or Arkansas.
Plus, on paper Bama’s roster is a basically a list of 5 stars. That is why they get the benefit of the doubt. Also, ND is considered a “weak” 10-1 team.
That said, if they run the table, I’d like to see Cincinnati get in.

I didn't realize that Bama's only ranked win was against Arky. No wonder they ranked Arky. Gotta find a way to prop up Bama.

and IMO does not belong in the CFP.
Georgia is going to throw the SECCG so a one loss Bama and a one loss UGa both get in the CFP.

Agree. Now, ND has gotten better as the season has progressed but they're still weak for a top 10 team.
In all seriousness, I'd like our chances against Cincy. If they get UGA or OSU, it'd be like OSU a n d Mich St.

to get in the CFP and Oregon accommodated them. They'll probably be 5th or 6th in this weeks CFP poll but at least two teams currently ranked ahead of them will lose in the next two weeks.

Is ND really weak for a top 10 team? As a top 3 CFP finalist, sure.. A lot of parity once you get past UGA, tOSU, and maybe one dimensional Alabama.
Then it is throw in ND, Cincy, Michigan, the other OSU, blah blah, yaddayadda. My hope is for UGA, tOSU, OSU, and Cincy be the final four with … Cincy winning (but most likely our very good friends in Columbus, OH.

This is all nonsense,??Uga gets beaten by bama, bama goes to number one defecto beating Uga, Uga gets credit for a good loss because it was an SEC game,?? by all rights Clemson's gets put into the slot because they were the only team that Uga did not score against,?? there for making us the second best team in the country. Dropping bama to number three?????. With Cincy number four. That has bama and us playing as neither of us deserves to be there ??. Sorry can't keep a straight face any longer, the worst that will happen bama goes to number one and Uga falls to number three, because that have to have two sec teams in the natty. Are you confused now? Bottom line they are hoping it is close between Uga and bama and Cincy has a loss, mind blown??

Yep, but nobody thinks Cincy would ever beat Bama in a playoff game. I like our chances if we played Cincy and we aren't even top 25.

Georgia's schedule is terrible too
Nov 22, 2021, 5:08 PM
|

For the last 6 years, Clemson caught a ration of crap about its schedule from the mouth breathers in the media. Georgia has caught none this year even though they have played a total of one team currently ranked in the CFP Top 25. #21 Arkansas at home. Part of this is the mere fact of going undefeated gives all your opponents a loss, but people never seem to figure that out with Clemson and the ACC.
Before our game with them at the beginning of the year, the stupid narrative was UGA could afford a loss because they play in the vaunted SEC, whereas Clemson had to win because the ACC is weak. Well, here we are at the end of the year, and we have played 3 ACC teams ranked in the CFP and they have played one in the SEC. Obviously, the narrative didn't matter because we weren't a good enough team this year to be sniffing the playoffs. It is interesting though that no one in the SEC has come anywhere near to playing Georgia as well as Clemson did.

Want UGA, Michigan, ND and Natti. Do not want OSU. UGA will mess up one of those two games and should have lost to Natti in the bowl game last year.

Bret I find I agree more often than not with you when you post. That said, while I don't chant "SEC,SEC" to say Bama has not earned the benefit of the doubt would be dishonest. Since the playoffs started they have missed the playoffs once, and lost in the first round one time. They have lost in the Title game 2X (we know who against). Throw in the same argument that we have got to normally use I'm that we can only play who is on the schedule and there you have it. Bama could have played South Carolina Little Sisters of the Poor 12 times and I would say they are still normally one of the 4 best teams in the country every year until Saban retires. Cindy has done all that they could do, and kudos to them for beating ND, but I don't see them beating anyone that is legitimate playoff caliber. And yeah, I know they pushed UGGA to the max in the bowl last year, but history shows all too few teams "show up" once playoffs are off the table anymore. Opt outs, NIL and protecting their "brand" has become way too important these days.

Minor correction. Bama lost to A&M, not Arkansas.
