Here’s mine.
I had just started a new job as plant manager in Asheville, so late 2013 or early 2014. One of the maintenance guys was a big coot fan, maybe 60-65 years old. I walked into the shop and he says “all the Clemson fans I know are gay”. There were about 6-8 other maintenance guys sitting around the shop table and they all looked at me to see what I would do. So I look at him and say “that’s kinda funny coming from a guy who sits there watching his team yelling Go Cawks”. Most of the guys started smiling or laughing a little. The the coot says “Well, I love my Cawks”! Half those guys fell out of their chairs. I just shook my head and went back to work.

I have never had a conversation with a coot fan. On the other hand, I’ve had the same mailbox for 21 years and we’ve never talked either. I also don’t talk to pine cones, napkins, plastic bottles or my socks.

I finally just quit trying some years ago. Anytime the subject of College football came up, Coots bombard you with insanity, wishful thinking and delusional thoughts. I finally just came to the conclusion there would never be enough common ground to nurture any kind of intelligent conversation with Coots, so I just quit trying. I deleted them all from my Social Media accounts and blocked the other lanes of correspondence. It has been like a breath of fresh air without the constant barking of the little chihuahuas around my heels. Life is much better without the insanity, delusions and outright craziness of Gamecocks in my life.

Two Gamecocks in full regalia (including "Go #####" and "Clempson Sux" face paint) were standing outside of Memorial Stadium holding up 2 fingers. A very old Clemson gentleman approached them and asked:
"You boys need tickets?"
One of the Gamecocks replied, "Yes!"
Clemson gentleman: "Good!"
And he walked off while giving the best "heh, heh, heh" old man laugh imaginable.

On a cross country flight I was seateed next to a USuC alum. After several minutes of conversation he said, "You must be from Clemson." I asked how he knew and he said, "Well, you know a lot and you talk good." I replied, "You must be a coot." He asked, "Because of my intellect?" I said, "Lord no! I saw your class ring when you were picking your nose."

I was on a flight from Dallas years ago and started talking to the somewhat attractive girl in the next seat just to pass time. I learned she was a sophomore at USC. Later in the flight we hit some quick turbulence that shook the plane for just a few seconds. "What was that?!!!, she said. I told her we must have hit a 'possum or something. "I hate those things!" she said...while peering out the window looking for a carcass.
Her smile just wasn't the same after that.

Can we stop the fake troll stories and be real? Yeah there are a few weird trailer bad apples but most of my family and friends who went to Carolina are doctors, lawyers, or engineers and they’re highly intelligent good people. Again I didn’t grow up in SC my parents raised me in the north so I wasn’t around the rivalry back then but is this crap just trolling or do these people actually believe that anyone who is a gamecock fan slings fries? 😂😂😂 Tigers by 90.

what do Carolina and Clemson students have in common?
they were all accepted at Carolina.
was indifferent to the gamecocks until i lived in Columbia.
anywhere i went with Clemson attire i received the most vulgar,uncivilized remarks imaginable.
and this was in the late 70s. i was at "the catch" game (1st one) and have been to some high school championships, but will never go for another Clemson/Carolina game.
i know we all have "those fans" but the proportion is not even close.
years ago at Clemson i saw them throw stuff at their own team going into the locker room at halftime.
also, i have never been ashamed to say "Go Tigers!" in front of my children.

Ummmmmmm………you didn’t get your copy of the “New to South Carolina Handbook” did you?
On page 117 is the passage that addresses this situation.
“I’m not from around here, so you guys need to listen to me”. The handbook instructs to avoid thinking this and absolutely, positively without question, do not let those words pass your lips.

Unfortunately, I have coot relatives, and the conversation every year is the same:
We win: you guys have a cakewalk schedule, we’re beat up from playing SEC teams all year and you get an injured version of us every year.
They win: we are battle tested from playing in the SEC. Clemson is soft from playing pin cushion ACC schedule.
They also refused to acknowledge that we have won national titles. They claim every title we cheated in some form or fashion, and should’ve been stripped, but we paid off everybody to keep quiet

a little off topic but I have to share. It was actually at a Georgia game with my dad in the Valley when they had Herschel Walker. After the Clemson defense stacked him up at the line, this elderly lady, a Georgia fan, turned around to my dad and said, "He's got a hurt thumb you know". To which my father promptly replied, "yeah and George Rogers had the flu for 4 f***n years". I was never more proud.

Back when the men's room at Death Valley were still on the trough system, I was a young kid at a cold rainy Clemson-Carolina game. A coot fan stepped up to the trough next to me and was digging and digging in his trousers. He said, "When it gets this cold it tough to find". A Clemson man standing on the other side of him asked, "Are you gonna stay with that excuse?"

Some years ago I was arguing with a coot about who would win the game and he said "SC was going to beat Clemson so bad we would tear down Death Valley and build that Walmart." I had to admit that was a good one. I laughed a long time about that.
