According to Wikipedia, they had 2 good coaches during that period and won at least one natty. Certainly not up to Bear's or Saban's standards which were GOAT standards.

how long between peaks once a HC leaves. The ONLY program I saw (there are probably others) that had successful back-to-back coaches was Tennessee with Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer.

Typically it's a minimum of six to eight years and one to two coaches between peaks. Notre Dame after Holtz was around 15 seasons; Nebraska is still searching; Georgia after Dooley went a long time (or longer if you don't count Richt). Bama has had two troughs - between Bear and Stallings, and between Stallings and Saban... lasting around seven and ten years each (and a total of six coaches)...

SO...If history tells the future, Bama is probably down for a while...
