Brownell was a UNCW asst and they really wanted him bad and hope he’d slip through the cracks to them but Clemson came in late and offered him. They also talked about his role with the team and how he’s able to use his experience to help guide the players.

He was head coach at UNCW prior to coaching at Wright State, which is where he was when Clemson hired him.

This was 1994 and Brownell was in his first year as an asst at UNCW.
