Blame game

Sep 6, 2022, 9:21 AM

I don’t hate DJ I hate his numbers. I’m tired of blaming everyone else for his numbers. He was the 100th worst QB last year and didn’t progress all year, and so far this year against a shell of a football team in Ga Tech his QBR was 94th in the nation. This line and receiving group are mostly 4 star recruits, they aren’t perfect, but based on that alone I refuse to believe there are 90+ better groups out there for everyone else to play with. We gave his back up QB the back up line and receivers and his QBR was 94.6 while making a Swinney look like Jerry Rice. Dabo is going to play this game for a couple more games due to the competition after that he knows what he has to do and I trust he will do it.

I'm going to take your word on DJ having the 94th QBR in the country, but that leaves me more confused than ever over how QBR is calculated. I'm not saying that 19/32 for 209 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 INT's are monster numbers or anything, but I find it hard to believe those numbers are worse than 93 quarterbacks.

QBR takes into account all of a quarterback's contribution to a game, including passing, rushing, sacks, penalties, touchdowns, and turnovers. Moreover, each play is weighted based on its "difficulty", the context of the game, and the strength of the opposing defense.

I think then this is a case of how the numbers don't always tell the full story. What would DJ's QBR be if his 2 rushing touchdowns were passing touchdowns instead?

I'm not trying to argue that DJ played perfect btw. I was very excited from what I saw from Klubnik and I can't wait to see more from him. I'm not saying he isn't/won't be better than DJ. I'm just saying that looking at QBR seems to be a weird way to look at it. The Air Force QB is #9 in QBR for instance, and he completed 3 out of 6 passes for 109 yards. The Kansas QB is #3 and he was 15/18 for 189 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 INT. The completion percentage is good and all, but that was the #3 best performance of the week?

His passing yards were 75th and 1 touchdown passing was 71st.

I admire you for trying but give it up you cannot tell these “Pollyannas” anything about DJ.
