call on the goal tending happened late in the game. Say, for example, we scored on a goaltending with a minute thirty to go and went up three, and both teams went back and forth for the next minute twenty with no stoppage in play, and with 4 seconds to go in the game,WE FOUL THE OTHER TEAM ON PURPOSE. They will have to shoot 2 free throws and play is stopped. During the stoppage, THE REFS REVIEW the goal tending call and rule that it was NOT goal tending, and now we are only up ONE POINT. This is the dumbest basketball rule I think I have ever seen.
If it is going to be reviewed, it has to be reviewed immediately. Stoppage in the game? Play is stopped as soon as they rule goal tending. If they look at it and it was NOT goal tending, then they can at least give the ball to the offensive team and they have the opportunity to score. Last night, Girard immediately grabbed the ball of the glass on the rebound and laid it in. The more I watch sports lately, I am convinced the people in charge NEVER played the game, and I suspect many of the current refs never played the game. I think they studied and learned the rule book and then went out and started officiating games. Some calls, like walking, you just have to have a feel for, AND APPARENTLY REFS NOW DAYS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A PIVOT FOOT IS. If a guy picks up his dribble and spins around a couple of times, I promise you he can switch his pivot foot and never be called wor walking..

Someone posted the rules on goaltending in another post. Assuming that was accurate, in the last several minutes of each half play would be stopped immediately, so your scenario would not happen.

of a half it can be reviewed, but not before then....Just think about the game we had this year where the ball was CLEARLY knocked out of bounds after a FT by the other team, and the refs gave that team the ball. Not reveiwable...then just a minute or two later, we were in the allowed time period, and the ball is ruled to have gone out on the other team, AND THE REFS REVIEW IT TO SEE IF IN FACT IT WENT OFF ON GIRARD. I know they want to speed up the game, but a possession call is critical in a close game regardless of when it happens.

Spud, the best way to explain it is, the ACC officials must be democrats. They make up rules out of thin air and keep counting until they win. It does not matter how how long it takes either.

It was one of the weirdest calls I’ve seen. Honestly, how many minutes had elapsed not only in the game but in real time?
It would be like calling pass interference several plays later.
Crazy. I’m past ready for Brad to purposely get a T.

All the basketball reviews irk me. The way I see it is that in football, run a play and there can't be any reviews. In basketball once the ball is put back in play, there should not be a review allowed on any previous play. If one of the coaches wants a review, call time out before the ball is put back in play. If you win the review, no time out charged and if you lose the review, you lose a time out.
The Refs need to make a call and stay out of the game unless challenged by a coach using a time out before play resumes.

player made the shot so he or his team does not lose anything they earned by a review. They either got a 2 or a 3. But this goal tending is something else altogether....
