Brad has chance to possibly improve coaching staff

Mar 21, 2015, 11:37 PM

Rick Ray, former asst. to Brownell at Cu and prior has been terminated at Miss. State. Might be a good addition to the staff and improve recruiting on different fronts.

Ray will be coaching again somewhere, I feel sure.

He would have to let someone go to do that. I would if I were him.

Actually, Recruiting Improved

once Mr. Ray departed for Mississippi State, although I think that was more of Brad getting his feet under himself recruiting wise. However, I do think highly of Mr. Ray as a recruiter and basketball coach in general.

There are some philosophical differences there between Brad

and Rick, actually, that I think would prevent them from working together here at Clemson. Unless Brad has changed his view on playing the AAU recruiting game, then I don't see this happening.

I think the improved recruiting is a coincidence and a product of this staffs tenure here, not the departure of Ray. In fact, BB has struggled to replace Ray and Grant and our guard play has diminished since each of their departures.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith get canned (he hasn't brought in much in spite of the reputation as a recruiter) and Ray and Tanner Smith fill the asst spot and Lucas McKay's old spot (Lucas replaced Bender). Tanner would be in charge of film study/breakdown and Ray would have his old spot back with the guards.

I do, however, think the poster who made the point regarding philosophical differences between Ray and Brownell in recruiting has a valid point. Either way, I expect Tanner to return in some capacity.
