Bubble Passes

Sep 11, 2022, 9:44 AM

Has Rob Spence rejoined Clemson coaching staff?…

It’s a lot of work to gain 1 yard.***

I don't understand why we can't score on every play.

Wasn't he called the Mad Scientist or something back then?***

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?

We need to be more creative with screens. You see Furman and many other teams do it very effectively.

It seems to be good for 2 or 3 yards.

WR screens work great ! They really are !

Sep 11, 2022, 10:28 AM

... if you have a quick, accurate pass that leads the receiver and you have solid blocking.

With just an average receiver, they’re good for 4-6 yards ... when well executed. That’s really all you’re looking for.

With a guy like Sammy Watkins out there they can go or a TD at any moment.

But ...

We don’t have a Sammy Watkins, and our passes have not been quick and on the money, and the blocking out there has been suspect.

They help spread the field and you're right.

Sep 11, 2022, 12:01 PM

WE DON'T have a Peake willing to block like he did on those WR screens.

Another thing of note, that quick slant/post that Jaron Brown ran so many times off of those screens is now non existent

That said, I'm sure we've seen very Vanilla Offense thru these first 2 games and will see it this week also. Dabo's never been like Bowden, coming out with every trick in the Playbook, playing lesser teams to look dominate.

Bubble Passes . . .

will not work unless you have WRs that are willing to . . . and CAN . . . block.

Re: Bubble Passes = live action for coaches to critique

Sep 11, 2022, 11:45 AM

Glad that we are running bubble screens against teams that we can comfortably beat.

This provides live action for the coaches to evaluate ... i.e.:

See which receivers cannot or will not block.

See which receivers have the quickness to make first tackler miss.

See which receivers have enough strength to break arm tackles by defenders.

Give DJ & CK the real game practice as far as the delicacy, precision, and timing for this type of pass.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The frequency of bubble screen call looks like an attempt by our offense to work out the kinks under live fire.
