UVA can't afford for him to develop his style and team.

(pun not initially intended, but I realized it and I'm sticking with it, so maybe intended), the sad shooting might be the only thing that gets him an extra year's benefit of the doubt.

He's certainly not had an easy tenure there with the shooting, and the emotional toll from that shouldn't be discounted.
That, plus being African-American, probably helps get him some extra time there.
But at some point, objectivity will prevail and the conclusion will be that he's just not a very good head coach. I don't see him ever making them a consistent winning program, much less an upper echelon ACC team.

UVA resides in a very liberal area. The problem is that UVA's program should probably be Division 2. The other problems is that UVA is an academic U, first. Sports are secondary.

Saying they have a D2 program is bit of a stretch

The Cavs have an overall strong athletics department. Saying that is looking at Football only & discounting the sports they are good at (which aren't sports that many of us here on TNet generally care about, regardless of if Clemson sponsors those same sports or not).
I do think TE is gonna get at least a 3rd year for variety of reasons mentioned (primarily the tragedy that befell them & b/c he pushed for changes before he'd agree to the job).

The Indians have a fair program. Mike London, former UVA...

HC took over for Jimmye Laycock a few years back.
Coach Laycock[~250 wins with the Indians] of course was hired away from Clemson after serving as OC for the '79 Tigers. It was his 2nd stint at CU.
Great story as to the why Coach London got into coaching. Good man, good coach.
UVA agreed upfront to some major improvements before TE would take the job. They might be patient if things aren't in place, but stranger tides...

No, his style of coaching will not get it done at a place like VA. Sometimes coaches have an expiration date and i know elliot isn't that old. Elliot was always a guy who was at the right place (clemson alum) at the right time (under dabo who gives many in my opinion unqualified guys chances) and under the right circumstance ( trevor and deshaun) just be real without those perfect storms he isn't a good coach he should feel very lucky he is a clemson alum and that perfect storm made him a multi millionaire.

elevated him a bit. The number of times Trevor converted 3rd and 8 or more, especially against Alabama in the championship game, is crazy. Seems that with those teams we should not have been in 3rd and long as much if the offense was running well. Trevor to Higgins or Trevor to Ross solved a lot of 3rd and longs. Was that a great play call on 3rd down? Were the play calls bad getting there? Not sure.

The UVA fans are restless and TE's hob is in jeopardy. Many of the faithful are calling for a change--some before the season ends. Others are questioning why Carla W. [the AD] did not lock in on M. Elko. Tony is bearing the brunt of Bronco's recruiting results and the loss of Armstrong plus the trauma of the shootings.
I hope he lasts but have no confidence that he gets another year. If his recruiting trail is strong for the next class, maybe he does get to the '24 season.

Bronco’s recruiting wasn’t bad.
2021 season, UVA had a good (senior laden) OL, including super stud (low * recruit) Center Olusegun Olutawimi and QB Brennan Armstrong. Mendenhall retires, all of the good OL graduate or (in case of Oluwatimi, hit the portal). Not surprisingly, B.Armstrong’s performance at QB deteriorates from very good to mediocre during TE’s first year.
TE had a terrible first year in the recruiting arena, pretty much as expected after TE’s first season at HC was flat out bad.
So here we are for 2023 season.
(?). Anyone watch the NCSU vs UVA game ~ Thurs or Friday the week before? The end of the game was brutal; UVA snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. On UVA’s offense next to final play of the game, they committed a 15 yard penalty on a 4th and goal play. Then, miraculously, they scored a TD pass to take the lead with less than a minute to play. NCSU needs TD, FG won’t cut it.
But then UVA’s QB, a mediocre player, gave a ‘look at me, I’m a bad a_ _’ pose after his helmet got knocked off. Poof, another 15 yard penalty assessed on the KO.
NCSU returns the KO to near mid-field.
UVA finally gets NCSU in 4th and long and desperate, clock running out. Boom. Another 15 yard penalty.
Next play, NCSU scores a TD. UVA loses.
Sorry, sports fans. This was an abhorrent display of undisciplined FB. HC has to be the guy who instills discipline in the team. If UVA were coached as well as BC, then I believe that UVA would have had 2 wins this season.
Instead, I could see UVA going Oh Fer.
Look, I want TE to get another year. I think that he will get that chance. But if 2024 starts out at 0 - 3, then he’ll get canned. UVA will have to fire him.

I don't think his style of coaching is a good fit at a place like UVA where they need someone who is more of a program builder.
While I personally don't care for him, they need someone like Lane Kiffin or Lincoln Riley.

They can’t compete with schools that offer recruits 50k to sign. And who knows what else. Heard Saban told a couple of 5* guys they could take a hike. No 5k for a visit. If so, good for him.

Not sure where you heard that on Saban, but he landed a lot of guys over the years that were known to be on the take. Saban blasted Texas A$M for paying players under the table a couple of years ago, yet he's always been really shady. Julio Jones was playing high school ball and practicing when Saban heard that Pete Carroll was coming to town and SAban had Julio's coach hide Julio until Carroll was gone. Right, classy guy and so very honest.

Two great friends of mine are UVA alums
Oct 3, 2023, 1:54 PM

Neither respect Elliott, and neither respected London as head coaches. One more year for Elliott seems likely if only to lower buyout payment.
Year / Salary 2022 $4.1 million
2023 $4.24 million
2024 $4.24 million
2025 $4.4 million
2026 $4.4 million
2027 $4.55 million
There is an $8 million buyout in the deal, but that amount will be lowered by $2 million each season -- so after 2024 season, buyout will be less than annual salary. All in all, with bonuses, moving expenses, salary payments and buyout, Elliott will earn 17 million for a little over 3 yrs work. Yes, I'm jealous.

I don't think he is going anywhere after this year. It's not that they don't have the money. They have more money than most colleges in the United States. As someone previously said, they are happy with the status quo and the alums will leave it alone as long as they continue to win national championships in sports like soccer, lacrosse, and tennis. He!!, their former school president called sport endeavors, "jocular". They are a different breed up there.
