The result never really felt much in doubt to be honest. The tigers held a comfortable lead for most of the meet. Final score 196.550 to 194.200. Clemson won all 4 events, scored at least 49 on 3 of them. Beam was improved tonight (49.200) after the shaky start from before. Overall looked solid. The Tigers made a few mistakes, but limited them to one per rotation so none of them ended up being costly.

Interesting decision by Coach Smith to move Trinity Brown out of the anchor spot on floor this evening and have her only perform as an exhibition. Eve Jackson, who hadn't even done floor yet this season, was given the anchor spot instead. She didn't have her best performance, as she ended up having a couple of rough landings on her flips. But again, the others did well, so her score ended up being dropped and no harm was done.

Not trying to be too critical, but I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of gymnastics decision making (as most of us are I'm sure), so I just wonder what the reasoning is for making lineup changes like that on a meet-by-meet basis. I remember Coach Smith saying in an interview that they make those decisions mostly based on watching how comfortable everyone looks during warm-ups. That way if a particular athlete looks off one night, or someone else looks really good, they'll make the lineup change. I guess having that type of day-to-day flexibility makes sense in a sport like gymnastics where mentality and confidence are so important, so maybe the decision was just made based on something of that nature.

I also wonder if maybe it's because Coach Smith decided to give Eve a shot at competing all-around at the last minute because the lead looked comfortable at that point. But maybe that's ridiculous, I really don't know. Again, this is all just speculation because I'm trying to learn the sport better. Maybe we'll find out at some point, but either way, no big deal. Great performance and nice win by the Tigers to continue this fantastic start. Love to see it.

Unc made a similar change on floor too. That beam performance was steely nerves. After the fall on the 2nd routine... whew. Nervous watching.

It could be like most of the individual sports. They have intrasquad comps all week. Idk, just a guess. Most likely it was warm-ups.
