College Football Changes

Dec 11, 2022, 1:32 PM

It seems as if governing bodies in college football have given into public pressure and have opened things up without considering the consequences.
Transfer portal, NIL, playoff expansion. All tied to money. The “all about me” attitude has gotten so extreme. Now we have a system where hardly anyone is loyal to anything except the dollar, and a playoff that completely devalues the regular season. Pandora’s box has been opened under the name of “giving power to the players.” But as a 22 year old, that responsibility and amount of money being offered is more destructive than anything.

The governing bodies of our nation, not those of college football, have decided that NIL is a right that athletes have. Athletes can now be paid for their time and image.

I disagree with your comment about the regular season. With a 12 team playoff format, you now have 20 to 30 teams who have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs. Currently, we really only have 8 to 10 teams who have a shot at it each year. Therefore, the regular season is gonna be much more interesting for a lot more teams and fans fans.

Every team has a shot to make the playoff, at least every power 5 team. Lose a game or two and you’re done. Makes the stakes very high for each game. Whereas in the NFL, who cares if you lose a game

Nah, he's right. Theoretically, all teams have a chance

Realistically, very few do.

The main playoff contenders going into this season were Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, USC, and maybe Oregon.

3 of the 4 playoff spots went to that group of 7 teams and only Oregon (15th) didn't finish in the top 10.

The only legit playoff contenders from outside that group were TCU and Tennessee. And this was a season with more chaos than we had seen in quite awhile.
