I hope they can, but I wouldn’t count on it. This has been their weakness from their inception. I was hoping since it is now year #5 they would be some improvement offensively. They are no better offensively now than they were first season. Maybe worst.

The issue I see with Team 5 is that Rittman has several upper classman players he recruited that don’t play let alone start. The recruiting of more stars needs to go beyond Julia Knowler after all this early success. This team is still Valerie and a few above average teammates. The talent this year reminds me more of Team 3. Capable to win many games but not near enough right now to advance in the NCAAT like the goal they have set. Last year was a more talented team because Rittman found some very good transfer players to fill gaps.

You 100% correct. I think they have good pitching, but they are lacking offensively.

Yep. I believe we've discussed this on several occasions. No one wants to hear this, but as much as I love Rittman and respect him, this is one reason Stanford soured on him for. He just couldn't seem to get over having good, not great teams.
Not only have we not recruited as we should have, our development hasn't been there either. Our power seems to have regressed too. Yes, we can beat up and hit dingers against average teams... but we lack solid contact. Sure, good pitchers make you do that. But as great as Val is, even good hitters come through every now and then.
13 lob, 10 freebies. Runners on base almost every inning and we could only scratch a run.

I saw way too many swings at bad pitches that were in the dirt or way outside. There is no excuse for that if you are teaching hitters where the strike zone is located.

There are not many productive at-bats. Our batters don't work the pitchers, they let the pitchers work them. Don't swing at the first 3 pitches. Val is out there pitching her a** off while the other pitcher is getting by throwing maybe half as many pitches.
