Could the state of South Carolina...
Oct 20, 2014, 12:53 PM
|
|
ever get behind two undefeated teams the way the State of Mississippi seems to have done this year?
When I grew up in SC(North Augusta) the teachers used to say, thank God for Mississippi because it kept SC from being the worst in public school academics. Both states are similar in that they are small southern states with 2 competing college football traditions.
What if one year Clemson was ranked #1 and uSC was ranked #2 halfway through the season like MSU and Ole Miss this year?
Most Clemson fans I know want uSC to lose every game and vice versa. There almost as much joy on this board with a uSC loss as a Clemson win, sometimes more. Could you boys have a Kumbaya moment like they're having in the magnolia state? Could you swallow your contempt for the ##### and pump out your chest with state pride?
Best regards, CGD

But you are right about the Magnolia state... My GF's dad is an Ole Miss alum and him and I shoot texts back and forth about college football all the time and he has been more contemplative towards State than he has his own Rebels.

Our teams haven't sucked bad enough to do that

The Mississippi solidarity mostly comes from those two teams being perennial cellar dwellars in their division. Clemson has been a pretty good program for years, and South Carolina fans at least think of themselves as cheering for a good program. So it's not any kind of a feel good story when both teams are undefeated like it is in Missip.

No way. I would have a hard time pulling for them, even if a coot win meant Tiger advancement. I have and always will pull against that team in all sports, but mainly football. I have had much enjoyment this season as they self destruct late in the fourth quarter.

I know it's hard for SEC fans to understand, but it's called a rivalry for a reason.
I want scar and every ACC opponent to lose every game. When you find yourself pulling for other teams to succeed outside your own, maybe you aren't such a diehard fan after all.

I wouldn't pull for SCU if they were playing Taliban U. A winning SCU makes a happy coot, and that I just can't abide.

for the sake of the state. Im about 98% certain they want each other to lose. However, midweek they probably sit back and think, hey its good for our state and kinda cool to see, but come Saturday....there is no love lost.

but I think that it may be easier to recruit when both stare schools are performing well. . Is it just coincidence that both schools are having great runs at that the same time? My opinion is no.
So, no, not getting behind them, but what will be will be.

Right after we beat them like a rented mule I would want the NCAA to come down on them, vacate all their wins, give them a 5 year death penalty, then tar & feather Ballsac and ride him out of town on a rail.
Oh, and force them to pay homage to Clemson for the next 100 years.
