Dabo encouraged by how well we moved the ball

We averaged 5 yards per play. Would this consistently beat everybody on our schedule? This stat for the season last year would have ranked 92 out of 131 for FBS.

It’s actually the same yards per play that we averaged in 2021.

Is your point that we are consistent in our rushing attack?

The point is to move the ball across the goal line. Anything short of that doesn't really matter. It's like a hitter with warning track power.

Some of these stats matter quite a bit as indicators

of future performance. Advanced analytics (like the stuff Vegas is using to set point spreads) use things like yards per play, success rate, big play rate, etc.

Really the issue with a low yard per play average and no explosive plays is that it kills all of your margin for error. Sure you can March down the field and score a TD if you average 4 yards on every play of a drive, but that's not how football actually works. Somewhere in there is going to be a penalty or negative play and then everything unravels.

In a way, we are playing service academy football right now.

That's some BS on the same level as Beamer saying

"we beat the spread!"

There's something in these hills.

We had 29 First Downs and 1 3-and-out

There are at least 3 things more important than YPP:

1. Conversions / Red Zone conversions - we were good and bad here

2. Turnovers - we had a historically bad night here.

3. Explosive plays - we have been poor with this even TL16's last year.

Our YPP was so low because we had no explosive plays outside the Mafah run. YPP wasn't so low though as to stop us from dominating possession. SO our YPP were well good enough to hang onto the ball, wear out Duke's D, and ultimately win. Turnovers killed us.

My favorite stat is the one where

you finish with more points than them.

(Now, I realize it's an unsophisticated way of looking at things.)

But it feels like that's usually the stat most people look to when deciding whether a team has won or lost a particular contest, and whether they'll win or lose other, similar contests.

(Just win, baby.)

Hopefully he doesn't really believe that

You can't believe half the things that come from the mouths of CFB coaches.
